Unearthed my golf clubs as I've got to clean out of the storage unit we use at work.
Got tempted to go down the driving range, briefly. Then I found an old scorecard in one of the pockets, from some time around 2018, the round clearly hadn't gone too well (I'd written "**** this stupid game" in big letters all over it having gone +3 front 9 (playing off 7) then like double triple triple quadruple bogeys before apparently walking off.
Started triple triple with a couple of really weird shots. One went 10 yards left lol after that I said to myself right see if you can break 100 after that 14 shot start
Par .. we rocking now
Blob ..
Half way round had 14 points and had hit 51
Not awful considering
Had another further blob and a couple of rubbish holes but managed to finish off with 99 after last 2 holes my par putts just lipped out
I'll take that tho.. 99 after wasting 2 holes to start with my c game
Tomorrow some physio to reset before royal cinque ports Thursday
For the 24th round of the year that was a bit special
Royal cinque ports
Just beautiful
Blowing a gale so was very difficult
Cracking day out and we really lucked out with the 2 we paired with for the event.. similar age to us. Good craic and tidy golfers but didn't take themselves too seriously.
Already got a WhatsApp group going to arrange a meet up at each others courses
Bloody brutal out there today. Wind was very strong but also wrong way for the course
21 points lol
Started blob blob, stunning birdie on 9 to finish with 13 points for the front. Decent I thought with the start.. pa
They had really sped up the greens. Got on 10 in 3 after putting in a bush then 3 putt because my first the wind took and pushed it down the side of the hill further than when I started lol
Then went on a run of blobs for 4 holes before getting a point on the long par 5.. another ridiculous drop out a bush when id smashed a 5 wood bang down the middle of fairway and it rolled so far it didn't stop
Apparently I'm too hunched when I stand over the ball. Which causes me to get inside on the swing, flick my wrists and get out of line, leading to inconsistencies and chunking.
When I got it right, I was hitting about as far on a 3/4 swing as I normally do full tilt.
More next week.
I'm away in September with a few seasoned golfers, so I need to get to at least moderately **** and not totally crap.

Once you get the fundermentals you will suddenly drop right down handicap wise. So many recent to golf people pick up and can hit it miles which is a huge weapon for handicap gains
I suffer from the same hunch, when I am playing bad I focus on grip and my hunch / back
Resulted in a 200 yard up hill into wind drive followed by a 190 into wind up hill 5 wood on a finishing par 5 yesterday, it's frustrating when you know you can do it but can't get it out
Turnberry overlooked, once again, as a potential host of the 2028 Open. A wonderful links course in a beautiful part of the country, such a pity its owner is such a grotesque moron.
I'm debating whether to accept reality and buy some new irons with senior shafts. My measured 7 iron swing speed has dropped from 65-70 to 55-60 over the last few years, and now Takomo offer a graphite shaft* for the 101 mk2 including in senior flex
I'm still getting reasonable distance with my TM Stealth power bats (7i carry around 140 yards plus or minus) but new and shiny must be better, right?
I had another lesson last night. A fairly big swing change for me. It's taking some getting used to, but I can see the benefits of it. Standing taller, getting a cleaner swing, not coming out to in so much.
Played today and put it into practise. Dearly me. It was a bit of a tale of two nines. The front nine was horrendous. Woefully inconsistent. Second guessing my swing on every ball. I shot a triple bogey or worse on every single hole bar one - one which I got a par. There was just too much going on in my head as I was setting up, positioning, swinging back etc.
Back nine was much better. More consistent. Not brilliant but single bogeys every hole. One blow up hole ruined the back nine sadly, but if I can carry those 6 or 7 decent holes forwards then I'll be happy.
I can see when I get the knack of the swing change it will really help my game. I'm hitting straighter when I do get it right, getting cleaner hits, and I'm adding 15-20 yards a club. 18th hole was 140 yards over water onto the green (Cranham). I went 8 iron, into the wind. Hit it cleanly. Almost made it. Probably 3 or 4 yards short. The old man said I was mad going 8 iron. No doubt if I'd gone 7 iron it would have bounced over the green and off of the back. Or else I'd have just shanked it into the water anyway.

Lots of room over the back of the green mate. I mean the green is massive and plenty of room before the water. Your irons will carry roughly 10 yards between each other at most on good strike , the green is 20 yards long from front to back (checking on hole 19) into wind anyways go for the back yardage and go for the club to reach that on an average strike
Then again if played correctly the drop zone is only on the winter mat anyways so up and down from there isn't the worst lol
Lesson wise sounds about right. Same here. Just keep at it..when you get it seems such a simple game..just need to get a process or pre shot to stick to
