Rosanna by Toto. It's like they almost had Africa in the can, but they'd just ****ed every aspect up a tiny little bit.
Ah, now this is the stuff. Temptation, H17. Blistering tune.

Glen Gregory looked a bit like a washed-out Christopher Walken.
Some cracking tunes in that chart.

Hm. Loves me some David Bowie - who doesn't? - but this Nile Rodgers Let's Dance period is my least favourite.

Switched on to 1994. CJ Lewis with a truly abysmal bit of cod reggae. Now the pretenders with a tedious ballad.

Erasure weren’t everyone’s cup of, but I thought they did some splendid pop songs, Always being one of them.

I see you and raise you with his Outside - his cyber punk album that fails miserably apart from Hello Spaceboy. and I'm a massive Bowie fan.last.caress wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2026 8:33 pm Hm. Loves me some David Bowie - who doesn't? - but this Nile Rodgers Let's Dance period is my least favourite.

Me. The only Nile Rodgers era was the only bit that was just about acceptable.last.caress wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2026 8:33 pm Hm. Loves me some David Bowie - who doesn't? - but this Nile Rodgers Let's Dance period is my least favourite.

Toto are one the bands as a teenager you had to throw up all over out of pure youthful duty.
However like Fleetwood Mac, older and wiser you realise that Africa and Hold The Line are incredible musical masterpieces.
Mind, I Won't Hold You Back is a goddam pukeworthy love song only saved when Roger Sanchez transformed it

You mean real people who like Twisted Sister?last.caress wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2026 10:27 am Well of course you. I didn't mean you, I meant real people.
Seeing as we are on TOTP thread, lets talk about me having to suffer that Ashes to Ashes video with a Bowie in a Clown outfit walking in front of a JCB with Steve Strange in tow. Even at the age of 12 I could work out pretentious bollox at its very height.

Yep, Africa was a song that 17 year old CRS couldn’t recognise as the masterpiece I now do. Not cool enough for me back then but over the years it’s become a firm favourite of mine.Bend it like Repka wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2026 9:10 am Toto are one the bands as a teenager you had to throw up all over out of pure youthful duty.

I kinda always liked Fleetwood Mac mind you.
Re: The Top of the Pops Thread
To qualify for my guilty pleasure playlist it has to be a song I'd never admit to liking in my youth, but now, I don't care, Toto, Foreigner, Chaka Khan? Africa by Toto was always a kick-ass number.
Bendy you've got to stop eating crayons, it's making you (more) ill.Bend it like Repka wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2026 10:40 am that Ashes to Ashes video with a Bowie in a Clown outfit walking in front of a JCB with Steve Strange in tow. Oh, Bendy. I mean I love nothing more than having a good laugh at your expense but: Mate, what are you doing?? Thank God you already don't possess any credibility whatsoever because, if you did, you'd be doing untold damage to it right now. Ashes to Ashes is one of the best No.1 singles of the 1980s, accompanied by one of the most innovative promotional videos of its era, taken from one of the finest albums of that decade, by arguably the greatest solo artist this island ever produced.
(And PLEASE don't start comparing it to Everybody Needs Somebody to Love by The ****ty Blues Brothers or I Just Called to Say I Love You by Stevie Bloody Wunderbar. I know those are your go-tos but you've committed enough self-bumwrong for one evening and it's becoming distressing for all of us xxx)
