Just before my time unfortunately, but I agree - his achievements should be more widely recognised than they are.
Budgie Byrne suffers a little in the same way, although in the next group his top level career was just about over by the time of 1966 etc and he doesn't quite get the status of Hurst.
I remember wandering down Green Street programme in hand to watch us play Southampton in the 85/86 season when a policeman asked my mate and I where we were going.
After looking at him and wondering what we had done wrong he explained that the game was off.
We then turned up at Arsenal as we didn't want a wasted day and paid at the door for a seat. Football wasn't quite so popular then kids.....

I watched it and for the first time i actually spotted myself and my mates standing in the West Side,**** me we all looked young and all had hair.
Remember once I was on my way home a couple of hours after our game had finished carrying it. Tube pulled into Liverpool Street and the train filled up with Chelsea fans coming back from Ipswich. Bag was immediately spotted and I thought I was in real trouble (especially as they'd been heavily beaten), but to be fair, none of them had a pop and we ended up chatting football and having a laugh.
