Did I tell you my Housemartins story?

Ian (Stan) was kind of a mate of mine and he asked me to join when their original bass player left. Embarrassingly, Paul had already asked Quentin (Norman Cook). So I told them not to worry, because I thought the band I was I already in was going somewhere.

Fast forward several months and they were on Top of the Pops while I was still playing to half a dozen people in the ****ing back room of the Apple Tree in Crawley.

Bitter? Yes, a pint.

At work on Sunday I was helping a lady with a wine question when her husband started talking to me about how he used to live in London.

Apparently he was a Roadie or something for Bros & the Pet Shop Boys.

He might have been lying but surely you'd make up a better lie if you were going to do that.

Bizarre and unexpected. Just got a text from a mate saying "Do you know James Collins? I'm sat with his brother"
"Do you want to speak to him?" (err, what am I going to say?" )
Turns out it was indeed Ginger Pele's (older?) brother won't name names but seems 'imself has 3 sisters as well.
Nice chap full of praise for his brother says Ginge loves West Ham and I said he is still well-regarded there too. Had to chip in that referees didn't like him cos of his size.
Doing coaching badges in Wales and does general sports punditry in the region too

My nephew was in a pub in Chester and got talking to Ian Rush - he immediately phones his Mam and says ' It's Ian Rush on the phone, Mam ' and Rushie obligingly chatted to her for a minute or two .
