Re: What did you watch last night?
No shoot outs, no scenes of rapid machine gun fire and aged overweight police officers running across the rooftops and chucking hand grenades about etc. Etc. :winker
I thought it was superb as it happens

Sad the young lad who died.Sod that isolation 8 people in a small cabin for 10 days knowing that if 1 tested positive they start the ten days over again

Definitely feeling a bit underwhelmed with that ending to Happy Valley - I think it had too many things to wrap up, and did them all far too quickly.

Re: What did you watch last night?
I'd enjoyed all the previous episodes and it was building up nicely for a Grand Finale but nothing really happened.
We knew Tommy had to die but the whole episode just trundled along and lacked excitement.
A lot of these dramas tend to fizzle out and this was another.

I loved the fact that the circles in which he moved ultimately led to his downfall.
Less is often more and it certainly was for me.

Re: What did you watch last night?
I thought the exact opposite. The show didn’t need a massive shoot out or big explosions. And imo, stuck to what the show has been great at, the writing and relationships between the characters.Ralph Mellish wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 10:26 pm I'd enjoyed all the previous episodes and it was was building up nicely for a Grand Finale but nothing really happened.

Re: What did you watch last night?
They could have done a big siege style episode with Tommy sneaking around the house they were staying in picking off the supporting characters etc but it's never been that kind of show.
Sarah Lancashire might as well just start rearranging her mantlepiece for the Bafta now.
Yep, thought it was a great ending to one of the best British shows of the last 20 years.

Re: What did you watch last night?
Absolutely, and James Norton matched her brilliance in that last episode - just superb writing for the scene they shared. Out of character for him on the face of it, but it actually felt believable and well yeah, right. That was down to Norton and that script. Norton's performance, reflecting frailty and vulnerableness rather than murderous evil, also meant that I doubt that I was the only one rooting for him in the scene with the three who had been sent to kill him

At least HV didnt have a ridiculous Line of duty type ending. 7/10
I was convinced Lancashire's character or one of her relatives were going to get killed though.

Only quibbles was a few sub plots like her ex going after the gang villain, the teacher and pharmacist just didn't go anywhere or were resolved by a few lines of dialogue by other characters.

The 2022 special of The Detectorists. Smashing little series, that.
Re: What did you watch last night?
Happy Valley: turned to Mrs. Sword halfway through, "This is going to ****, ain't it?".
A shame, as it could have been sublime.
Highlight for me was Tommy Lee's change of perspective with regard to Cawood, yet she didn't waiver a jot, if anything it enhanced her resilient loathing of him.
The Detectorists: easily my most favourite TV thing for years, got hooked on the very first episode. Can imagine it may be too slow for some.

Re: What did you watch last night?
He featured loads in episode one, couple of times he was seen wearing a Millw*nk shirt but he's from Essex so that seemed a bit odd.

I've never seen it but people keep telling me I would love it, maybe I should give it a go.Up the Junction wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 10:37 am The 2022 special of The Detectorists. Smashing little series, that.
