I must admit I am enjoying this far more than I thought I would. When I heard it was being made I wondered whether it would work but it’s hit the ground running and is perfect comfort viewing.Cuenca 'ammer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:50 pm night before last

Re: What did you watch last night?
I just watched Luther Fallen Sun. I've never seen the series but know of it.
I have to be honest, London looks terrifying nowadays & I am glad I live in the safety of the USA.
If people tried jumping off of buildings here they would get shot before they hit the ground. We don't stand for that kind of stuff in the Land of the Free

Just finished watching Fall as no meetings today whilst WFH.
Meh, not absolutely terrible, but it felt like it would be better if it was worse if that makes sense (think Sharknado).

Final Unforgetten.
Yep, like others have said a bit of a poor ending. Like Happy Valley, we had 5 episodes of slow burn drama and a rushed ending.

Better (BBC iplayer)
Absolutely preposterous cop drama. But we actually really like it.
Andrew Buchan does a great Norn Irish accent.

Yep, a load of old tosh, but very watchable and Andrew Buchan’s Ulster accent was spot on.
And a decent ending to be fair.

C4 The Piano
Remarkable performances from amateur pianists non more so than Lucy, and I quote the Telegraph: ' Lucy ,13 years old, Blind and unable to hold a conversation due to developmental delays'
In the 'final' she played Debussy's Arabesque No1, (no nor me!). It was wonderful, the audience, transfixed.
Six or so minutes of being amazed:-

The grand finale of Endeavour.
Utterly brilliant. Never watched Morse (I iz too yoof-ful innit) and although I saw most of them I never felt Lewis rose above "slightly more sophisticated than Midsomer Murders" level.
Endeavour though has been brilliant through its entire run. The final episode, especially the last half an hour, was absolutely spellbinding, a truly beautiful way to end a great series. 10/10

Mando S3 E3. Yeah, I don't know what this show is about anymore. It's not about The Mandalorian anymore, or at least about that one. Maybe it's about another? Or is it now about trying to give the Star Wars sequels a back story? Loved the start of this episode and then it abruptly went dull and turned into another program altogether. Weird.

Paula (Ch4)
Excellent documentary about the life of Paula Yates. In truth she was a smart, sexy and very talented woman. The way she was treated by the press was truly shocking.

Red Cliff II
having watched I over a couple of nights before. bit of a sucker for a Chinese period drama. quite how they manage to pull off the choreography, the fight sequences, the battle scenes, et al is quite beyond me.
yet another one changed by the director John Woo
Director John Woo said in an interview with David Stratton that the film is only 50% factual. Woo decided to alter the story using modern feelings and his own feelings for a more worldly acceptance. According to Woo, historical accuracy was less important than how the audience felt about the battle.[14]
wonder how the Chinese audiences felt about having their history changed to suit John Woo ?
anyway, as I'm not really bothered about historical accuracy is this case, because I have zero knowledge of Chinese history anyway, but to describe these two films as epic, is a bit of an understatement.
and of course the way these Chinese films are put together anyway, you have to suspend belief most of the time. they had superheroes before superheroes were the cinematic thing really. one bloke taking on almost a hundred "foes" single handed and beating them all.
but. again, this is one of those gigantic efforts. fantastic viewing imvho.
followed by
Still Game - Drama
where Jack and Victor win a trip to a Scottish single malt distillery and where Winston is tracking down Stevie the Bookie who "did a runner" with Winston's 32k winnings.
a laugh a minute........

I watched both episodes last night and any journalist, photographer or member of the press that featured in that show should hang their heads in shame. truly shocking way to treat a person.westham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 6:32 am Paula (Ch4)

Even the producers and hosts of "Have I Got News For You" should be shamed.
Even if you had never heard of her, Sadly as the programme progressed and the way she was hounded on you could see how it was all going to end.
Really does highlight the low depths the media go to just for a pound note.

We watched it too, quite a sad and tragic tale although she obviously didn't do herself any favours at times. As for the press, they won't change until people stop buying their tat.screech wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 4:31 pm I watched both episodes last night and any journalist, photographer or member of the press that featured in that show should hang their heads in shame. truly shocking way to treat a person.
