Re: Little things in life that make you smile
A day piloting a motorboat on the open sea for 10 hours, traveled around 30 miles on glass like smooth water, dolphins following us and showing off - bit of booze, food and swimming in 30ft deep crystal clear grecian water.
The absolute perfect birthday....

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
My eldest daughter, her husband and my two grandsons, finally came to see us this week, COVID stopped play previously, the first time have met the youngest, he's a proper thug, two years old and has his mother wrapped around his little finger, on the other hand the eldest has turned into a lovely lad and I spent the week teaching him to swim, it was just a lovely time after a long wait. It made me smile.

Waking up this morning to a (genuine) email from HMRC telling me I'm due a tax rebate.
It's funny, the reality is that I have inadvertently given them an interest free loan and they are just paying me back what is legally mine, but because it turned up out of the blue it feels like a bonus, like free money.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
My garden rebuild entering the last few days of the project. My contractor's hand built me a beautiful decked area in front of my garden office with a pergola, raised sleeper beds either side of the fake grass lawn (yeah, I know, but grass always got waterlogged and this plastic stuff is much easier to maintain), a lovely porcelain slabbed patio, a marvellously over-engineered fence and gate to hide the dank side return and a new back door to replace the tatty old single-glazed french doors. And a special barbecue zone for my kettle, smoker & pizza oven. Also considering one of them outdoor stoves for cold weather heating but also has a hot plate on the top for cooking steaks.
We've been here 13 years and never had a garden where any of us wanted to spend any time, so this ought to be a pretty transformative addition to our home. It's all so chunkily built, with much more weight and precision than was strictly necessary, but I'm an engineer, and he understood that was my main requirement for the works (my wife handled the aesthetics & layout). I've had stuff done on the cheap before that didn't last more than a couple of seasons, not this time.
Just can't wait to start using it properly & letting the kids have somewhere nice to relax & play. I'm gonna set up an outdoor projector so the kids can watch movies when the sun's setting. I'm just looking forward to cooking some steaks whilst drinking scotch.

Top Tip! If you're going to illegally fly tip an empty helium canister in someone's skip, make sure you remove the delivery note from Amazon that shows your name, address, and details of the product you'd ordered, beforehand.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Took it round, rang their camera doorbell, stood there with a massive ****-eating grin on my boat, holding the canister in one hand and the paperwork in the other. Heard movement behind the door... but no-one answered, funnily enough. Left it there on their doorstep with the paperwork poking out the top.Cockneyboy311 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:52 pm Please tell me you dumped it back outside their house.
