Little things in life that make you smile

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

The discovery that cellar spiders like to kill and eat those horrid massive house spiders. They're now my friends and I'm going to leave them to live peacefully in the corners of all my rooms.

I always leave them anyway, they seem harmless enough.

Being a thread stopper....

You look down at the current "last post" on a thread....or multiple threads........as it slowly drops down the page. And yes you were the last contributor.

Thread killer.... :crylol:

Although she was in the buff, it wasn't full legs akimbo jobbie - the finished images didn't really show anything - arms positioned to cover chest, no minge shots - but of course, the eyefuls when changing position were certainly a sight to behold.

I get daily notifications from Quora (it's a great app if you haven't already got it), anyway, I'm subscribed to a lot of history groups and this post, from a fella from Bristol and the replies, really did make me smile ... the title of the thread was "Name The Most British Thing Ever"
1940, hight of the Battle of Britain an eldery great aunt of mine (who passed long before I was born) was living in North London. A german bomber fell victim to the good ol’ RAF and it’s five man crew bailed out. Four of which were caught pretty quickly and made POWs. Meanwhile my great aunt, who was over 80 at the time heard a noise outside, and went into her back garden to find a very shaken up and bemused german airman sitting in her vegitable patch. She picked up a kitchen knife and demanded his surrender. Said airman was a young chap aged about 19, he spoke a little english and he surrendered to this knife weilding old lady straight away. my aunt then took him into the house and at that point the air raid siren sounded again, another wave of bombers were on their way.

So she sat the guy down in her kitchen, made him tea and biscuits and chewed the fat for an hour or so. Then when the all clear went got a neighbour to call the police. When the police arrived she handed the airman over and told them all about him, how he was a nice young man who was only doing his bit for his country and that he wasn’t a nazi cos he said he hated Hilter.

She died in the mid 1950s and exchanged letters with the airman through out his time as a POW and he even came to her funeral.

Just seeing how quickly The West Ham v Tottenham thread has dropped down to nearly half way of page 2.

So much for our concern about them and it being our "Cup final"

Quora is brilliant. Some great Irish historians on there that think outside the box.a few months back when talking about the modern thought that the Irish,Scots,Welsh Manx and Cornish are not Celts was really eye opening.
Some of the answers given to questions non Brits ask about us are superb

I feel sorry for some of the yanks who ask genuine questions and then get destroyed.

The funniest one I read lately was:

"Has anybody moved to the UK and instantly regretted it?"

"Rudolf Hess" came the answer from a Brit :crylol:
