I'd say we evolved alongside apes and that apes are still here because there's no reason for them not to be.

I'd ask why homo sapiens is so much more intelligent than any other creature. We've made machines to discover what makes the things that make the things that make atoms, we can determine the atmospheres of planets orbiting distant stars and can make vaccines to eradicate illnesses. The next most intelligent creatures poke twigs in a hole to eat ants. Why such a gulf?

(Theory is) because we share a common ancestor which is now extinct.
We didn't evolve from apes, we both evolved from a common ancestor or ancestors (& while doing so, split from each other).

That's one of the BIG questions.. Darwin & 'natural selection' possibly attempts to partly answer this.

We've made machines to discover what makes the things that make the things that make atoms, we can determine the atmospheres of planets orbiting distant stars and can make vaccines to eradicate illnesses. The next most intelligent creatures poke twigs in a hole to eat ants.
Tbf to Millwall fans, they can do a little bit more than that..

What's intelligent about conciously developing the ability to destroy your own (and most other) species?

Sadly humans remain much closer to being animals than many would like to admit. Despite going to the best schools and universities the ‘great minds’ that run countries around the globe are typically undone by very animalistic instincts. Matt Hancock is a great example. Caught snogging a woman down an alley way during COVID and tossing away his political career in the process. Now aptly off to the jungle with all the other animals.

We developed bean counters early in the evolution process. This meant that we knew just how many baked beans we had to keep us going over the winter.

That and learnt how to cook using fire – You can see in some parts of Spain, where Dan's early ancestors used to carve & handprint on cave walls how to slow cook or smoke a hank of mammoth.

With detailed guidelines on how doing so ensured that the marbled fat rendered down to a delicious juiciness, and the monkey hair used as part of the smoking process gave the meat a unique flavour. :newthumb:

IIRC he seemed to lose it over Putin and the Ukraine thing. Shame if it hit him that hard.

I strongly believe in some sort of alien intervention and guidance at certain points in history.
