Yes, I’m comparing Andy Carroll’s footballing ability to Best, Moore and Gascoigne.

Sometimes I lie awake at night wondering whether I should have Pele, Muller, Van Basten or Carroll up front in my all-time World XI.

Would you have Carroll in your best ever West Ham team, Jaybs?

If only we'd had him when he had the correct size screws in his ankles.

More seriously, as long as he doesn't score against us or knock our players about too much , his career is yet another, ' What might have been'.

From the Telegraph

Newcastle United’s medical staff fear Andy Carroll will not be able to start a game until after Christmas at the earliest as he continues his rehabilitation from a career-threatening ankle injury.
Carroll came off the bench to a standing ovation when he played the final eight minutes, plus stoppage time, of the goalless draw against Brighton last weekend.
The striker’s return to his hometown club has been about the only feelgood story of Newcastle’s season so far, but there are major doubts about what sort of impact the 30-year-old will actually have on the team.
The Magpies signed Carroll on a free transfer following surgery on his ankle and his release by West Ham United in the summer and were willing to take a gamble on their former Academy player’s fitness because of his emotional bond with the club.

Sad for all concerned. But watching him at the weekend I am still pleased he's moved on. Even when fit he distorts the whole pattern of play and just wouldn't fit in with our system any more.

and he's probably pulling down around 50-60K a week from the Barcodes.

only thing he's missing out on is appearance/non used sub money.

they won't be dolling out many win bonuses to this lot this season I reckon.

I think he was signed to try and keep the natives onside, he must be on some kind of pay as you play deal? It was pretty obvious he was barely able to jump at his last comeback with us.

I don't think we've ever sold a player who I didn't expect to go on and do better having left us, but in Andy's case, and with sadness, it's pretty clear he's been done for the last couple of years.

He just can't get off the ground any more and even if they do get him onto the pitch, I can't see him having any impact. I'd like him to get a late equaliser at Anfield perhaps or a winner off the bench against anyone else but us, but if he starts more than 5 games this year I will be absolutely astounded.

As it just says he'll be making cameo appearances until the new year, I don't think anything has changed. We all know he can't do a full 90 mins.

seemed like he got a good reception - hope that was only from the Geordies and none of our lot - but I have my doubts.
