No Man's Sky

Post by Up the Junction »

This one looks interesting. Hugely ambitious project by a 10-man British dev team. A gameplay vid here:

Huge rumours that this is being released in the next month. Would they release at the same time as Halo 5 and Fallout 4?

I'll believe it when I see it!

Hopefully there'll be a game involved too, Elite: Dangerous is still getting a caning from the critics.

The developer was on The Late Show, which would be pretty silly if the game was still a year away. The developer was also pretty coy when asked about a release date as well. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... en-colbert.

Plus Reddit has gone into overdrive after Amazon.co.uk emailed them with a revised dispatch date. Would be a pretty serious balls up if they were not meant to get that email.

Ta for the link. Though we're still none the wiser as to what the 'game' actually is.

I think the whole premise of the idea was that it would be an exploration game (with a quintillion different planets to find) , but having watched a few videos today I reckon that they have expanded on that as it wouldn't have kept the player engaged for long enough. So it seems that there are space dog fights, some sort of ground warfare, with the player able to be an explorer, trader, bounty hunter or pirate. There looks like there is an end game as you have to (if you want to) travel to the centre of the universe.

I have a feeling this is either going to be the greatest game ever or a complete disaster! Considering the huge size of development teams nowadays, it seems a monumental task for a 10 man team.

I can see this getting boring after a while landing on different planets and claiming them as yours etc.

Yeah just read that. Still, 7 months isn't too bad considering the scale of the game. There was some nice tweets from the lead dev earlier in the week which kind of suggested that it wasn't quite ready.

It was this https://twitter.com/NoMansSky twitter account (which is Sean Murray the lead dev - the one on the late show)

The tweets in question
For those asking, we are still incredibly hard at work on No Man's Sky, but it's going really well.
We get one shot to make this game, and we don't want to mess it up. Hope that's ok.

Thanks. Tend to think they should keep schtum until they've got a product worth selling, but that's just me. It was the same with Braben and Frontier - and looked how that's turned out.

Bethesda have got it right IMO with Fallout 4, the drip has only just started a fortnight before its release.

Now hitting development issues as the game can't run on PS4 in its current form...

It's only ever been developed and shown off on PC builds, slated for June 2016

Hopefully this isn't another hyped to the max game that mysteriously falls into the void

So close to release, however another delay is being heavily rumoured today.

Part of me is happy that they are not releasing until they are 100% confident with the game, but the other part is screaming 'it's another Duke Nukem!'.

If it was possible for a game to jump the shark before it was ever released, here it is.
