Excellent again last night and frees up Soucek to do what he does best in the box.

Credit also to Moyes for shaking things up and solving what was looking like a big problem in central midfield.

10 on the teamsheet, but played some 8 and even 6 at times. As an example, he made a run into the box to free up Soucek for his one-on-one header. He consistently dropped back into a three in the middle to link play centrally with Rice and Soucek, and even dropped back to pick the ball up off our CBs (as well as make a game saving tackle late on).

Thanks :newthumb:

I remember some people (not me) calling for him to be played at that position a season or two back. Hopefully he makes it his own on a regular basis.

Brilliant last night.

But I absolutely sh*t myself when Rafa Mir was bearing down on him!

Anyone seen a clip anywhere of his last ditch tackle anywhere?
Was fantastic in the moment.
His defensive and work rate contribution has gone through the roof, really shinning in a deeper role lately.

Think he’s back in the Argentina squad if his insta is anything to go by. Well done Manu.

A joy to watch last night.

I honestly thought he was done for after his major injury - which was a shame, as I've always loved this little fella - but the levels he's playing at now, are arguably better than they were pre-injury.

He's in a slightly more defensive role than he was when he was playing the traditional number 10, but blimey is he starting to excel at it.

Almost 7 years at the club now, and just 8 games shy of 200 appearances. Our little jewel, and how happy am I to see him have this new lease of life.

Long may it continue.

I had a performance appraisal at work yesterday and, using the terminology that the micro managers above me would use with their HR handbooks to hand, I would say Manu is “exceeding expectations”
He is a key player whether he starts on comes on from the bench and it is great to see him in the National squad again.

He was the difference yesterday

The way he was used took the Tottenham fella who destroyed us last week out of the game and gave us control

Big games call for big players...yesterday he was immense

Well done to him and the coaching team for setting out the tactics the way they did
