Re: Trump
When you're in the eye of the storm, it's pretty tough to do anything other than react to immediate events, but surely you guys need to try to understand the systemic major malfunction in your political system that's thrown up this orange cretin, otherwise when he snuffs it(please God), you're just going to get another one.

It's not so much another 'one',, it's a movement involving about 30% of the population who are invested in varying degrees.Tenbury wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 7:57 am When you're in the eye of the storm, it's pretty tough to do anything other than react to immediate events, but surely you guys need to try to understand the systemic major malfunction in your political system that's thrown up this orange cretin, otherwise when he snuffs it(please God), you're just going to get another one.
It's like Sun & Daily Mail readers on Crack.
A fear that 'their America' is being taken away from them by non whites that don't know their place, socialists (although they don't know what socialism is other than possibly Cuba and Venezuela) and immigrants.
Not sure they'll ever be another trump but there are plenty looking to capitalise on the movement he's stirred up.

Trying to appeal to the 74m Americans who like Trump, to change their minds? Tough gig...Shabu wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 2:45 pm It's not so much another 'one',, it's a movement involving about 30% of the population who are invested in varying degrees.

Re: Trump
I wouldn't say that ALL 74 million who voted for him are trump supporters as much.
Many of those votes were from people who......
Just wouldn't vote democrat no matter what.
Are **** scared of socialism & think the democrats are sliding towards it.
For some other reason that's important to them (abortion, guns, racism, fear of immigrants etc).
Did so because fox news told them to. If fox tells them to vote against trump they probably will or they'll switch to the trump media. Murdoch has switched sides before (see below) & knows he could do it again.
But yes, at least half of those 74m are rabid trumpies & not bothered about anything but the leader of their violent cult.

Surely you've read every post over the 599 pages of this thread.Tenbury wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 7:57 am When you're in the eye of the storm, it's pretty tough to do anything other than react to immediate events, but surely you guys need to try to understand the systemic major malfunction in your political system that's thrown up this orange cretin, otherwise when he snuffs it(please God), you're just going to get another one.
Every 50 pages or so one of us septics or expats comments on the system being broken right down to the foundation. Trump is a symptomatic, opportunistic parasite, one that needs to be dealt with. Nevertheless, there is far greater work to be done.

Re: Trump
There's already a very active competition to be the heir apparent. There's the nipple-dicked governor of Florida, the current front-runner, who is probably too contrived to make the same emotional connection the Trumper does. He's already drawn the attention TFG himself, who has launched some shots across the bow. There's the hot grandma governor of South Dakota, who has the requisite meanness but was born without a sense of humor. There's the wannabe Arizona governor (currently Republican nominee) a former local TV news anchor, who is also easy on the eyes but is with the Q and batsheet crazy in general. Would hang out with drag queens not that long ago, but having a questionable past didn't exactly bother the MAGA crowd. Plenty of other self-deluded pretenders to the throne, including the older of the idiot sons, the former veep, the former Secretary of State and others too numerous to name.Tenbury wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 7:57 am When you're in the eye of the storm, it's pretty tough to do anything other than react to immediate events, but surely you guys need to try to understand the systemic major malfunction in your political system that's thrown up this orange cretin, otherwise when he snuffs it(please God), you're just going to get another one.

Re: Trump
The tl:dr of Barr's actions is that if you're President it's ok to engage in what is otherwise criminal activity if you perceive it as being in response to an undefined threat.
BREAKING: DOJ has released the full memo to then Attorney General Bill Barr analyzing why Trump should not be charged with obstruction-of-justice based on the Mueller report. DOJ had fought but lost a @crewcrew FOIA lawsuit seeking this disclosure. https://int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/ ... 4/full.pdf
2/ Vol II of the Mueller report detailed numerous episode raising potential obstruction of justice concerns. Barr purported to clear Trump of all of them, but never publicly discussed many of them. Here are some of the most important ones from the report:

Re: Trump
Judge orders release of redacted search court papers
A US judge has ordered investigators to release a redacted version of court papers used to justify a search of ex-President Donald Trump's Florida home.
The public version of the affidavit, a court document that includes evidence presented by prosecutors, could reveal new details about the inquiry.
The Department of Justice opposed releasing an unredacted version amid its ongoing investigation.
The FBI search was part of a probe into the potential mishandling of documents.
Mr Trump has denied wrongdoing and insists the classified files that investigators say were found at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach had already been declassified by himself.
On Thursday, US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart ordered the affidavit to be released with redactions by noon (16:00 GMT) on Friday.
He said prosecutors had demonstrated a "compelling reason" to black out parts of the document, which would reveal the identities of witnesses, law enforcement agents and uncharged parties, as well as "the investigation's strategy, direction, scope, sources and methods".

Sorry, but Bullock's right. I was in heaven recently (I pop in now and again) and the Angels and stuff were very pissed off.
