Just as a ball-park figure, how much do people think we'd need to spend in the summer to make us a top eight side?

The 1st manager ever to turn down the chance to buy players.

Allegedly
Quite right. All managers know they are on borrowed time. I think that it would be very unlikely that Slav would have turned down the chance to sign players now for the chance to 'spend big' in the summer when he might not even be here.

Also, he must know how reliable our owners' promises of jam tomorrow are as well as the rest of us do.

Not that much if we had a fair wind with fitness and got three big calls (RB,CF and CM) right in the transfer market. After all, we finished 7th last year and are only five points off eighth now (having played both sets of mancs home and away already).

It's getting into 6th that's the first really big hurdle.

Tough draws this season to be far... Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City... that is harsh.

Presume you clear say £50m pure profit each year on the TV revenue etc all other aspects taken into account then over 3 years FFP means you could not spend more than £255m (without sales). No club can have an operating loss (and money plowed in by owners would unbalance the accounts) of more than £105m. It is why the creative sponsorship deals and naming rights of the big clubs attract some criticism as it is seen as the owners getting around the rules. For all the money it might bring I would not want to see one of our owners brands adorning the shirt.

It's made me think that it's likely that some of our players have had similar bans.
