I don't know if Mandalorian 2nd season is running in the UK yet, but if not I'll just say that it has redeemed the franchise for me. It's been great this season. I don't get a lot of the references because they seem to mostly come from the cartoon series which I haven't seen. But that's fine. It's been very fun to watch.

The last two episodes with storming the empire lab and then introducing Boba are the greatest Mandalorian episodes I have seen.

This is the way

Great post. That is genuinely amazing.

Love The Mandalorian. Shows you can big back old characters properly and with care unlike the mess that was Rise of Skywalker.

Doing the nine with UtJ Jnr in the run up to Christmas. Having seen Episodes I and II so far this week, it strikes me that I've not seen them in full before (largely, I think, due to disappointing reviews at the time and a desire not to sully the treasured childhood memories of parts IV to VI).

Without going into great detail, I shall award the following scores...

I: 5/10. Vastly disappointing.
II: 7/10. Vast improvement.

III tonight. The final part of the (second?) trilogy and another I've only caught parts of before.

Interesting. I think II is the worst of all 9 by a long way. The dialogue is just so awful I struggle to watch it.

For me it's III, then I, then II out of the prequels.

Of the middle ones its V, IV, VI.

Haven't settled on the last 3 yet but probably VII, IX, VIII.

I think Episode II is the best of that prequel trilogy. That's a bit of a minority opinion, though. Generally speaking I'd imagine most prefer Episode III, and a fair few tend to find II to be the worst of the lot (for my money, Episode I is by far the worst of the lot. Mindbendingly poor). Episode II is beset by a truly dreadful "romance" between two characters with zero chemistry whatsoever, delivering wooden lines to one another with all the nuance of a couple of kiddies at their annual nativity play. Hayden Christensen simply isn't up to the gig and Natalie Portman seems unable - or more likely unwilling - to carry them both through the horrible dialogue. BUT, there are several terrific set-pieces throughout the movie, the star of which imho is that terse exchange between Jango Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Fett's quarters on Kamino which explodes a scene later into a cracking fight in the rain on a landing platform beside SLAVE-1.

Lucas apparently got someone in to help write the dialogue in Attack of the Clones.

The annoying thing behind the prequels is that behind the atrocious dialogue, etc is a pretty clever plot.

For me: II, a long way in front of III which in turn stands a long, long way in front of I.
Hammer1972 wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 1:03 pm Of the middle ones its V, IV, VI.
Agreed.
Hammer1972 wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 1:03 pm Haven't settled on the last 3 yet but probably VII, IX, VIII.
For me, the divisive VIII is the standout, hamstrung to a significant extent by the overrated VII which preceded it. IX is imho almost as bad as I, which I guess brings the saga full circle. But this entire sequel trilogy has largely been a busted flush.

Rogue One is imo every bit as good as the original '77-'83 trilogy. Solo isn't quite that strong but it's not far off either. It's still an entirely unnecessary chapter but it's grown on me, and I reckon time is going to be kind to it.

The Mandalorian is superb. Just superb. Star Wars (Lucas, 1977) is, at its heart, a western. Thematically. Aesthetically even, in a weird way. Somewhere along his journey Lucas forgot that, or abandoned it. Jon Favreau didn't forget, and he has taken the franchise back to its roots.

Agree with most of that.

Rogue One is superb and one of my favourites. Solo is fine, just unnecessary.

And The Mandalorian is a joy every week.

Where do the two fit into the timeline?

Solo concludes ten years before Star Wars (Lucas, 1977) begins

Rogue One concludes immediately prior to Star Wars beginning. Like, immediately.

So as a very rough, approximate guide, it goes:

Episode I - The Phantom Menace
(10 years)
Episode II - Attack of the Clones
(3-6 years*)
Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
(6 years)
Solo: A Star Wars Story (takes place across approx three years)
(10 years)
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
(straight into)
Episode IV: A New Hope
(3 years)
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
(1-3 years*)
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
(5 years)
The Mandalorian
(25 years)
Episode VII - The Force Awakens
(straight into)
Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
(1 year)
Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

*These time jumps appear to be subject to debate as far as I can gather. All depends on which source you're looking at.

Something like that, anyways. These things are always a little out here and there.

Thanks LC... Solo it is next then.

A solid 8/10 for Pt III. Easily the best of the prequels for me.

This just in:

The Rise of Skywalker’s status has been downgraded from “alright” to “terrible” following a rewatch this past weekend.
The Last Jedi still easily the strongest of the Disney Trilogy.

Disney's bringing Hayden Christensen back as Vader in the Kenobi spinoff. Hopefully he's taken acting classes in the past 20years.

9 new Star Wars shows?!?! Holy overkill.

Disney are goin all out, pretty exciting if the new stuff keeps up the quality of The Mandolorian.

As for Hayden Christensen, I feel it was the horrendous dialogue that was the problem more than him...
