I've been a bit disappointed with OWK so far...but that was bloody great.

Amazing, so many Easter eggs and nods to the past. Considering we all knew the out come that was utterly wonderful.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
I'm starting Obi-Wan Kenobi tonight with almost zero enthusiasm for it. I'm going to crash through it in two days for little other reason than that it's there, and mrs.caress' free three-month trial of Disney+ is about to expire. I guess I'll catch Ms Marvel/She-Hulk/Andor etc (no enthusiasm for any of those, either. Well, maybe for Andor, a little) once The Mandalorian S3 has aired, which'll likely be the next time I take out a Disney+ subscription.

Be interested on your take of it, one episode aside (4 was it?) I thought it was fantastic and other than Rogue one (which I love) I thought it was the best Stars Wars in the modern era (Mando season 1 was a very good as well.) Yes it pulls on every 44 year old blokes nerd strings and does all the things the fans want to see, in a not very subtle way, but I don't care, I loved it.last.caress wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 11:09 am I'm starting Obi-Wan Kenobi tonight with almost zero enthusiasm for it.

I've enjoyed the Star Wars franchise over the years, mainly the originals, I wouldn't call myself a fan though.
But I must say that I have a really enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi
Has more of an original feel to it, compared to the prequels and sequels.
Plus, anything with Vader in will always win, for me.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
I think they have done some decent things with the franchise over recent years. As others have said I think it works best when they can tie it in with the feel of the originals.
I’m easily pleased when they reference the old films. They always seem to throw in a few obscure references from the original like the little black droid that emits a high pitch squeal as it scurries around the corridors of the imperial cruisers. So nostalgic.
The Kenobi story slots in well and I would say there is a good deal more mileage leading up to the events of New Hope.
If I had a pet peeve it would be the fact that it was decided in the prequels that Anakin killed all the Jedi Kids in the Revenge of The Sith. Not really congruent with the spirit of the franchise and somewhat beyond redemption. It now feels a bit weird when watching Revenge of the Jedi. At the end of the film a glowing Kenobi and Yoda basically say to child killer Anakin ‘you’re actually alright mate’. Meanwhile a superficially appreciative Anakin is secretly preparing to slaughter half a dozen Ewocks!

Slaughter a load of kids but throw an evil old man down a hole later on and you get to party in the Jedi after life...hmm.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
didn't think OWK was that great. maybe I'm not fully immersed in the Star Wars whole thing other than just watching movies.
some people talk about sub plots etc. and to be truthful they go right over my head in that I mean I didn't follow it or see it or whatever.
gave up on this one after the idiot episode where he got into the Sith place and smuggled the little kid under his coat through the entire heavily guarded control room, and whatever happened to the body she stashed behind the computer banks ? she never even attempted to hide it. I know I have to suspend belief in a sci-fi film but honestly come on....
maybe missed a good bit, I don't know. struggled through to the bitter end of The Book of Boba Fett and maybe that put me off finishing this one.

Same for me and sums up my feelings exactly. One slightly ropey episode, but otherwise a very high standard and respectful of what has gone before.S-H wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 11:29 am I've enjoyed the Star Wars franchise over the years, mainly the originals, I wouldn't call myself a fan though.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
I'll say one thing. Disney Star Wars certainly does like the juggling and chucking of rocks using the force.
As for the episode, it was half Spaceballs half excellent.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
Just finished Obi-Wan Kenobi. It improved as it went on but lapses in narrative logic combined with plodding, wooden dialogue left me mostly underchuffed with the entire unnecessary affair.
I suspect that that's me done with Disney+ for the time being, at least until The Mandalorian S3 tempts me to resubscribe.

I enjoyed OWK much more than Book of Boba Fett.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
I have only just begun watching Boba Fett. I wasn't sure what the general consensus was. I didn't find many comments for it a couple of pages back but interesting to note the last couple of posts. After watching the first 2 episodes, I kinda agree. It feels like it is just following a formula but without the heart and soul of the Mandalorian. It is most disappointing when you consider the Robert Rodriguez connection when it should have been more.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
There are a couple of episodes that improve significantly. You'll understand why when you get to them. Otherwise for me this series was a huge disappointment.

Re: The Star Wars Thread - May the Force be with us (Spoilers!)
Had to trundle my way through Boba Fett but having watched three episodes of OWK so far I think it is far more interesting and darker. Certainly feels more like Star Wars with the characters.
