An absolutely brilliant player, who moved to England mid-season and hit the ground running, then performed superbly despite being played on the wing for his whole West Ham career when he'd been a striker in his home country.

It was an incredibly glamorous signing for us at the time. Foreign signings were very rare in those days. Can't think of another off the top of my head until the 90s.

Very sad news. Always seemed like a nice guy in interviews too.

Saw him score the goal at white hart lane, and the Boxing Day hatrick v Swansea.....a terrific player, such awful news , far too young

RIP Francois. He was on of the smoothest, classiest players of the '70s. I'd go so far as to say that in the vast scope of players who've played the game he is still underrated.

He was exciting, exotic, skilful creative, attack-minded He seemed to float across some of those mudbaths he had to play on, much like Brooking did.

RIP Francois, I remember walking out of the Heysel in 76 and asking my Dad who that great player was that had just showed some real class during the game. He replied that I shouldnt worry cos we probably wouldn't see him again! :crest:

Sad news , he was fantastic player one of the first of the foreign imports to English football.RIP Francois.
