Heard this being played in a shop earlier.
My mate was playing in a very serious post-punk Cure/Krautrock inspired band in the late 80s, and making ends meet by working in the guitar department of one of the Tin Pan Alley music shops.
One day a bloke came in and said he needed some musicians that would form a "band" to do a few days touring, miming at a few clubs and events to promote Belinda Carlisle's new single. 100 quid a day. So my mate took it on, thinking that absolutely nobody would ever know and his credibility would remain intact.
Little did he know that he would be stood right up front on a TV appearance. Meet Leon, the most reluctant ever performer on Top of the Pops. Still makes me chuckle.
