Another excellent video from Golf Sidekick. How to score better by playing for the good miss.

This is a good example of how to play golf, not how to play golf swing. It's 48 minutes long but worth watching it all.

I stopped watching golf videos on YT a while ago, but started watching him after that other video posted on here was recommended.

I really like his explanation and approach to things, and comes across as a genuinely nice bloke rather than ol' Crossfield who is laden with insecurities and Shiels who gets dull rather quick.

Dan Hendrickson is pretty good but haven't watched his stuff in a while.

Played the Essex today

Alright course, felt bit overpriced for what it is but nice day out

Finished with 34 points in the society handicap (which is what my index is) but once whs kicks in it goes down as 37 on my general play score card

Enjoyable day

New one length 3 hybrid and my 60 degree wedge I slotted in the bag filled in gaps nicely

That's where I'm a member of. Not sure what they charge as a day rate but my joint membership is about £90 a month, which includes the gym/swimming pool etc. (not that I use those, although used to have a swim after and a shower when I first joined which was nice).

The course used to be in slightly better nick, but they didn't restrict as much during winter so it took ages for the fairways to recover.

The big downside of the Essex to my old club (Channels), is that the food is absolutely sh*te. The pre-cooked Brakes stuff.

We usually tee off at 6.45am ish, finish by 10. They do a 2 ball only until 8 I think it is which is really good.

Pace of play was a bit poor but we did follow a group of ladies that were very slow lol

Breakfast was ok, the 70s porn music in the clubhouse blasting out was annoying

Was nice in parts. Liked the lay out (especially the one with water either side , had to take a hyrbid not driver for position)

What I don't like seeing is two holes in a green with one covered by a rubber insert, that's what council courses do not decent priced courses. I'd expect the greens keepers to cut and fill the holes as needed

Felt the tee boxes aim you right a lot? Is that normal

Yeah i try not to give women golfers jib but they really are slow at that course. That's why me and the father in law tee off at 6.45 most Saturdays as it is 2 balls only until about 8.

The 9th has water on the left and straight on if you hit it far enough if that's the one you mean? I usually just take a long iron on that tee for position like you say.

The 18th they are looking at going to a par 4, as a good drive (a good one for me is about 10 yards short of the ditch, hit it in there once!) And a good 6/7 can get you on the green in two.

The 12th at the back of the course is fun when the emergency helicopter is firing up, bloody loud it is. I've hooked one left on there before and hit the hanger further up, loudest donk I've ever heard lol.

The course is mainly designed to put trouble to your right, but I find the fairways quite forgiving due to their width, but it is easy to get into trouble.

There's a couple of holes that you can get away with a dodgy drive as there is limited OOB. The 2nd (left and right), 3rd (right) 6th (right), 8th (right) 15th (left) 16th (left) and 17th (left) I've hit the other fairway and had a pretty good line in still.

Glad you relatively enjoyed it mate. It's a compeltely different course to Channels where I started playing (a lot flatter) and the greens are quite easy IMO.

With the holes on the green, they did have proper grass topped covered ones so they might have swapped them out as they were getting worn. I'm not playing tomorrow, but next week I'll keeo an eye out for them.

Got my only ever eagle on the 3rd. 6 iron to about 150, then a PW to land about 20 yards in front of the green and it rolled in!

No wasn't the 9th was the 13th

Agree the 18th is never a par 5, I almost got on in 2 and only didn't because I bottled the longer club because of the water around the green

Par 73 felt a bit gimmicky, easily be a good 72

Yeah the group were awful , so slow..

Enjoyed the day out for sure

Very noisy with that air field lol

Ah the 13th, forgot about that. I aim for the bunker on the right (hit more of a draw than a fade usually).

I've never played of the whites there but that hole and the 18th they really add a lot on, a good 30 yards at most.

6648 off the yellows is enough for me and I'm generally a longer hitter, just not as straight as I'd like!

I'm a drawer my fear was running into the second body of water if I didn't land on fairway to right lol the 4 hybrid got me comfortably in the middle of the lot

I'd play the course again but try and go when it's quieter, think we were bang on 4 hours 30

The ladies in front were awful because not only were they short they were wayward, where as ladies behind were medium and straight so caught us constantly lol felt for them

Very close to a hole in one yesterday.

2 foot away but the line of the ball flight was perfect and me and my pal both thought it was gonna drop.

Never mind always next time !!

The chap I play with every Wednesday (he's in his seventies) was three feet from an ace today on the par 4 16th 271 yards off the yellows. The fairways are running well and there is a downslope to the green but it was still some shot. It certainly surprised the group up ahead on the green

Did he three putt for par?

That's the sort of thing I end up doing!

Round saved by parring the 15th long par 5

Lovely round at the links yesterday

9 hole comp.. which they insist still off the black tees (pushing to switch to whites.. as if they are to call them championship tees they should be really for championship events not the run of the mill comps) didnt score well, 12 points

back 9 I said to the group now we dont have to lets go to the other extreme of the yellows.. everyone enjoyed it far more.. I scored 19 points believe it was off them.. the 2 older gents in my group who arent as long were taking irons into greens instead of 5 woods to still be short.. everyone just enjoyed it more

golf is suppose to be fun after all

I mean our yellows are 6187 , whites are 6633 and blacks 7122

Lets compare to top meadow as people around here know that course at its lenght its whites (our blacks) are 6155 so our yellows (forward tees posible are longer than the comp tees there) and their yellows are 5192 .. so I dont think its a bad thing to play off the whites let along the yellows lol

ive noticed societies who have been recently have been off the yellows not knowing they are the old reds and we get less complaints that the course is very long.. I believe thats the move the club has made just need the comps to move down to whites to fit in lol

saw one of the pros after he read an article that if you dont drive 275 constantly you should play a course under 6700 yards or you will always be playing catch up

wise man

What a b-e-autiful day down the links today .. weather , company and golf

Finally got a friend down who hadn't played it.. off 7, said best course he played since we all went princes in 2019. Praise indeed

Golf was fantastic, didn't lose a ball , hit 37 points . Felt I left a lot out there but always do don't you

Lots of comments of how much the course has improved my short game and never seen me strike a ball so well

Was just great day tbh

Now I'm playing tomorrow. What's the better 17 points and only 16 holes complete as I'm out of balls? Lol

Well done mate.

That's always the way, i usually shoot between 20-26 but hit a 17 over the other week and still was beating myself up about 4-5 shots I could have saved.

18 holes is a lot of golf to get right and be consistent over. That's what I remind myself when I have a bad hole.

We got trackman stuff down the range now (little channels). My coach says they have been configured right but the distances seem off. I hit a PW over the 100 yard green and it came out saying 92 yards carry. Similar with a 7 iron. On the course it is my 150 yard club, but on the trackman says only 125 carry which is miles off (well, 25 yards if you want to be pedantic).
