Re: The Golf Thread
Had my best round for a while yesterday, 81 round Sunbury, three birdies and thirty putts. A couple of horror holes scuppered beating my best of 78 but I'll take it

Can't even rustle up a four ball
Maybe I should add that the payment is not required until May next year!

Re: The Golf Thread
Been really struggling with my game recently
Pre October I was in the best form of my life
Post October it's been awful.
I'm defo in a slump, drivers lost 50 yards on a good shot and 70 on a poor shot. However I can accept 50 as it's winter but it's the other clubs
I can bearly get the ball going
Everything seems to come up 2 clubs short lol now I'm not a long hitting so I'm not being like oh it's 200 yards I'm gonna bang out a wedge I'm talking for example I had 70 yards in today and I know that's almost a full 56 for me
Came up 30 yards short what the hell
But today at least I managed to throw a good score together
Im booked in at a new pro in couple weeks, I wnna try this indoor sim at upminster just over winter ...fancy that over freezing at the range

Re: The Golf Thread
I was doing alright in the summer. Shooting high 80’s and a few mid range 80’s but all of a sudden my drivers gone from going right most of the time to a massive hook.
Taken to using my 5 wood to tee off. Only manage 180 yards but at least it’s straight.
Got about 5 rounds booked over Christmas to see if I can sort it out.
Putting gone a bit wayward too. Leaving everything short.
Frustrating as I don’t know why.

Re: The Golf Thread
^^^Winter. Trying too hard to get summer distances off the tee can cause all sorts of problems. Greenkeepers generally leave the grass on greens longer in winter too, apparently it's better for the grass. Longer grass means slower putts.

It's mainly because the ground gets so wet it's harder to get the machines on them without damageJohnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 2:44 pm ^^^Winter. Different planet.
I love the way he doesn't even watch it land and picks up his tee. He just knows.

Re: The Golf Thread
Lesson Sunday, few small drills and one slight change to work on
He got my swing speed back up by 10 mph
Went to range today
5 warm up half wedges using his alignment stick drill
5 full wedges
35 8 irons .. 25 were great, 10 average to meh but wouldn't be in danger
5 drives to finish
Striking so much cleaner again

Re: The Golf Thread
I've just booked a lesson with the pro at my club, mainly to look at my driving. Trying to fix a hook I've seemed to have developed.
Made some targets for next to work on
Play at last twice a month, mainly to coincide with the club stableford and stroke play competitions
Get my handicap back down to 18 (from the 22 its gone up to up to)
Shoot below 90 consistently, hovering around low 90's at the moment and it more down to wayward drives and putting. So a focus on those next year.
All gearing up to the inaugural KUMB Golf Day (or 3 ball!) and playing Forest of Arden in June.
Got a few rounds booked over the Xmas break. hopefully the course either opens or dry out enough for me to leave my arm bands at home!

Re: The Golf Thread
So lesson went well and been range 3 times. All good progress
Decided to play 9 today .. managed to sneak it in before I start my nights
Got the swing going well
Started par , par then was within 50 yards on the par 5 in 2 through some very good strikes
His tips are definitely helping and just need to work on it all slowly

Re: The Golf Thread
so I managed 18 holes yesterday
went out in 53 which lets face it.. awful
came back in 44 though managing a respectable 97
wind was tough ofc
however just goes to show the difference the new pro has made in 1 lesson
had my second today he tweeked the grip slightly and changed my path .. another 15 yards added to my 7 iron without me swinging much harder.. speed jumped from 75 to 78 mph through better mechanics
turns out he won the pro event at ingrebourne couple years ago aswell with -10 over 2 days. wow.
lovely learning again and also the fact its indoor sim has been fantastic for the awful weather

It's always nice to actually see improvements after a lesson
Meanwhile, different planet.

Turns out the guy who did those sums was out apparently, he "only" +10 aha but still wowJohnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:17 pm It's always nice to actually see improvements after a lesson

Yes he has worked wonders but wow I looked into him a bit
His 65 is ingrebournes course record. And he is that Good a pro he has made 95k from event winnings in his career! Just wow. I mean not tour level but for a teaching pro that's outstanding

Re: The Golf Thread
I was talking about it this morning with one of the club pros, it turns out that Rahm was born with a club foot and his legs different lengths, that's why he has a very short swing. Astonishing.

Re: The Golf Thread
Has anyone on here tried any speed training? I've been using the stack system and have been getting some serious gains in clubhead speed but haven't been able to take it to the course yet (far to wet in darkest wet Cumbria to be outside let alone on the course)
Started off with a clubhead speed of 95 mph and have just topped out at 112 mph giving it full beans so a 17mph gain in 8 weeks. Will be interested to see if it translates to any extra distance
