Getting a new kitchen put in and it's taking all week so no home cooking for me. I've come to the realisation that take-aways are generally crap quality and you just cannot beat home cooking from scratch with simple fresh ingredients.

It was 1.3kg (so quite small as I've only got a small fryer), whole chicken - took 50 mins - 25 minutes breast down and then flip it over for another 20-25 - checked temperature with a probe and it was spot on

potato salad comprising of taters, toms and onions all from the allotment and 100% organic. No fertilizer, no bug spray - 100% organic.

I even made the Dressing myself from stuff in the cupboard - white wine vinegar, mustard, light soy, lime juice, a little virgin olive oil, a few dashes of West Indian hot sauce and apinch of sugar and pepper.

Amazing and quite healthy.

Home made stir fried veg in a satay sauce.

I've never been good at cooking chinese/japanese food but I think I've cracked it. Use the proper ingredients - miso paste, wasabi paste, fresh herbs etc. It was like a stir fry from the chinese but without all the fat.

made 2 days worth so that was a bonus too!

My problem with stir-fry is it ends up all soggy. Mrs does it fairly well and as you say you can avoid the extra fat and salt that comes with take-away.

Tonight, carnitas. Pork shoulder cooked in lard, orange, beer, evaporated milk, herbs & spices. Healthy!
