Re: Formula1
I think bare minimum, the team have to demonstrate they are fully funded and sustainable for a reasonable period of time.
As for paying a fee, some other sports leagues, e.g. premiership rugby operate on a shareholding basis, any team that wants a part of it needs to buy a share, I wouldn’t know whether $600m is reasonable value for F1 but on the face of it, it looks like a number designed to block new teams. I can’t imagine VAG being happy to pay $1.2bn for Porsche and Audi, or even Ford paying that.
Basing themselves out of the US seems logistically difficult, but I guess most of the races will soon be in North America, so maybe the European teams should think about moving!
Personally, I’d like to go back to the days of having so many teams that qualification meant qualifying, not just deciding the starting order, but imaging setting up a multi-hundred million dollar business to not qualify!

One US and one Chinese team makes sense, for the sport.
Williams and Haas have the most to lose, with Sauber going works-Audi in a few years time.

Re: Formula1
Not Formula 1 and probably not worthy of its own thread but Formula E gen 3 season kicks off today in Mexico.
Race is at 8pm UK tomorrow night and is on Channel4.
Looking forward to this and the faster cars, several team changes and a few new races. It is not F1 yet (and will probably never be but I enjoy it)

Re: Formula1
How is the racing compared to F1?
MotoE is quite good in my opinion. It's not as spectacular as MotoGP can be at times, yet on par with Moto2. Nothing can beat the mayhem of Moto3, though.

Re: Formula1
It wasn't great yesterday to be honest. Overtaking was an issue. Teams seemed more interested in gathering data to try an unlock these brand new cars. It is a bit more wacky-racers/destruction derby at times that F1 and on occasion rules seem to be unexplained/made up (so just like F1) It is only its 9th year though and is using a rapidly developing technology. I am sure racing in the 1950s had similar issues.
Channel 4 relegated it to their Youtube channel (live) but it was on Eurosport.

Re: Formula1
I've watched Formula E for a few years now. It's ok, quite different from F1 which is probably a good thing.
I have to say the new cars look horrible. Like parmesan cheese wedges with wheels.

Johnny Herbert and Paul Di Resta gone from Sky's F1 coverage.
Shame about Johnny, though I'm glad to see the back of the Mershaydees stooge.

Yes is a shame, a decent bloke with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Saw him during his Formula 3 days and also winning the British Grand Prix 95.

You mean the one that never had a good word to say about Hamilton. I actually thought this was who you really are.westham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:57 pm Johnny Herbert and Paul Di Resta gone from Sky's F1 coverage.

RIP Jean-Pierre Jabouille.

Re: Formula1
Agree about Herbert, no idea who’s lined up to replace him but he’ll leave a big void to fill.
As for Di Resta, he won’t be missed by me. His spat with Hamilton goes back over ten years and he lets it cloud his judgement and commentary.

Naomi Schiff, apparently. Not that I'm complaining about having to stare at her post race, but there'll be no prizes for guessing how she got that gig.Chicken Run Supreme wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:07 pm Agree about Herbert, no idea who’s lined up to replace him but he’ll leave a big void to fill.

"Sport should never be a political tool" says Christian Horner. Of course he does.

Going on to say sports objective is to entertain.
Or, alternatively, THIS 'sports' objective is to earn as much money as possible by visiting money states with oppressive regimes, where the rights of large parts of the population are taken away.

Re: Formula1
Lets be fair here. Lee McKenzie is an outstanding F1 presenter. Laura Woods is an outstanding Football and NFL presenter. Neither of them played the sports did they?
I think you need a balance of presenters and sometimes a room full of all ex drivers or players doesn't work. As long as she is a decent journo then I have no issue with it.

Re: Formula1
I agree. Was just stating her surprise. We do need a balance though and Sky don’t really have anyone with recent experience (which is why they draft in Rosberg) . Personally I don’t find her too bad, better than the slightly mad Damon Hill at any rate.Bend it like Repka wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 10:49 am Lets be fair here. Re: Formula1
Could it be because the few times I have seen her on the F1 coverage, that she is actually a pretty good presenter, knowledgeable, and insightful, and has a nice, laid back interviewing style?
