Netflix and Amazon Video
Mods, feel free to move it, but there's been a few mutterings of giving these streaming services their own thread, so here goes......
Ok, so I'm pretty newish to Netflix and Amazon video, so here's just a few things I've watched so far-
Sex Education
Really enjoyed it. Worth watching. Looking forward to S2.
Narcos
Possibly the best thing the Netflix have done. The first few series focus on the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar. The latest series has been based on the Narcos of Mexico. Highly recommended.
The Staircase
Documentary about a man accused of his wife's murder after she fell down the stairs at their family home. It spans over a few years including the court case. Pretty gripping stuff.

Conversations with A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. - Netflix
A look inside the mind of serial killer Ted Bundy, featuring interviews with him on death row.
Chilling, yet very addictive.
The Haunting of Hill House - Netflix
Flashing between past and present, a family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
One of the best shows I've watched on this platform.
Lion - Amazon Video
A five-year-old Indian boy gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of miles from home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia. 25 years later, he sets out to find his lost family.
Really good film, highly recommend.

New series out today on Netflix - Dirty John
Half decent so far and based on a true story (from the podcasts of the same name) about a women (Connie Britton - yum yum) who falls for the wrong type of guy. A very similar thing happened to my MIL so most of it rings true with the Mrs.
Will probably finish it tonight - the joy of back operation recovery.

Re: Netflix and Amazon Video
This Sex Education thing is pretty funny so far. Soundtrack is absolutely superb.
Re: Netflix and Amazon Video
Couldn't get into 'Sex Education', didn't make me laugh enough to appriciate it as a comedy and i didn't warm to any of the characters in particular.
'Schitts Creek' is pretty watchable and light, nothing groundbreaking but all the main leads are superb.
'Master of None' is probably one of my (if not) favourite things Netflix has put out. A throughly refreshing take on the familiar premise of the ups and downs of life. Warm, charming, witty and with bags of heart.
The following documentaries are well worth a watch...
'Sour Grapes' - Crazy story of a con man cheating investors out of millions via wine fraud.
'November 13: Attack on Paris' - Overwhleming 3 parter, detailing the events of the terrorist attack on Paris with jaw dropping tales from people who experienced it.
'The Surrounding Game' - Orginating in ancient China the game of 'Go' is thought to be the most complex and challenging game ever created. This film follows a groups of American teens as they attempt to become grand masters of it.

Dark Tourist
Really good series on Netflix. Very much Louis Theroux'esq' so to speak, a guy from NZ visits different countries experiencing dark tourism, often quite funny but also very much WTF!!
Last Chance U
Another Netflix original documentary, perfect if you like American Football, it's about a college in the US who recruit players who have been chucked out of D1 colleges etc. and are trying to take their last chance in college football to try and make the NFL.

Patriot
Amazon show. Following the complicated life of an intelligence officer John Tavner, whose latest assignment is to prevent Iran from going nuclear, which requires him to forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous non-official cover.
Just finished the recently added second season. Really enjoyed both seasons

Do you want to win? Amazon.
Documentary about "Dirty Leeds" and the rise from the second division under Howard Wilkinson to Championship winners in 1992. Apparently there was football before then
They really had a great team back then.

Seriously, that Sex Education thing was a masterpiece. Not just funny and entertaining but the locations, costuming, and detail was brilliantly constructed.

Re: Netflix and Amazon Video
Good thread!
I'm sure i've spent more time scrolling through Netflix than actually watching stuff so it's great to have suggestions.
I saw the other day that Martin Scorcese's new film The Irishman is getting a limited release in cinemas and going straight on to Netflix. One to look forward to.

Mr Robot. Another great one on Amazon. Rami Malek & Christian Slater. Anonymous Hackers bring down Western society, but is something else at play?

Re: Netflix and Amazon Video
Lots of Ken Burns' documentaries are on Netflix. We recently watched the series devoted to the US Civil War. Obviously, this arose before there was any form of technology which captured moving images. Therefore the documentary, which iirc was 8 or 10 episodes long, was presented through photo's, actors reading letters, narration and talking head historians covering aspects of the events/politics etc.
Its an engrossing story, but the true measure of the documentary maker was that it never sagged, or got boring, even with the length and materials in mind.
He's done several, btw; the one about Viet Nam, which, of course, included everything that could not be used in the Civil War, such as veterans' recollections, moving images etc, won awards and might be the best documentary series ever made.
Well worth looking out for, if you're into your history...
