Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

We are giving up work at the end of Mach next year and taking early retirement. The plan is to move to Dumfries and Galloway (may be Ayrshire of Fife) and start a smallholding up there. We are over working to make money for someone else and want to go and live a more simple life.
Good for you, shires. Sincerely hope it all works out.

Was just a Snug "gag", no harm intended. Sounds like a tough year, hope you're recovery's a success.
As a matter of interest, what ink are you considering?
yma o hyd on the underside of my forearm. It's Welsh language for "still here" and an anthem song of ours. I received the all clear from the specialist hospital maybe a month ago.
Personally thinking of upgrading the flat to a house next year. I need more room. I'm on the Cheshire / Merseyside border and there's ample affordable property. I can quickly get a train in to the bigger cities like Liverpool, Chester and Manchester etc. Whilst this area isn't particularly brilliant, I've made loads of friends so I'll stay despite a few initial teething errors...
i'd love to move , i find the east end/essex totally depressing , cant see it happening because of work and family too , Linc look lovely , well parts of it anyway

The dream for me is to return to South Wales, but again it’s not as cheap as it was when I lived there almost 20 years ago but eh, it’s always felt more like home than anywhere else I’ve lived and I ****ing love the Welsh people.
I’ve got Swansea all booked on the weekend you’re having your meet up. It’s a five hour train journey from me so that first pint on Wind Street goes down very well.
I loved in Cardiff and Newport before - could easily get a job working in a shop in either place, and I’ve kinda started the ball rolling by sorting out a guest spot next year… I’m under no illusions that it’ll be the same as when I was 18-22 - I’m 38 now with 2 children, an almost wife and career, but I just love Wales and do miss it when I think about the place. Way more opportunities and cultural stuff to do as well.
I’ve always jumped in on the stupid Swansea rivalry

Well played mate.
How is it going?
It's early days, but so far so good. I'm back in Kent often to tie up loose ends and hospital appointments etc and see my son (I'm back here now for a week or so) but come the New Year, I'll be 100% settled I would have thought.

You’ve never moved there? What are you doing for work?
I'm not working - Technically, I'm still employed in Kent - but I am only 3 weeks post hernia surgery and have been told by my docs I can't drive a bus until January - but that works for me anyway. I do have a couple of non-driving job applications in progress though.
Big city is Cardiff so I'm sure you'll find something. I attend Wales matches at Cardiff City sometimes so I'll genuinely let you know if I'm around for a pint. You interest me as a person more than almost any other KUMBer (and I mean that.)
