Glad we got Bowen done.

I really struggle sometimes with what people want. Loads of posts asking for young championship players. We get one of the best goal scorers in the Championship in the last couple of years now people saying he is just like Snodgrass (who is not and never has been a goal scorer) and seem to be non-plussed.

I suspect the reasons why the likes of Chelsea etc did not make a move is they would prefer the proven article not the risk especially when the have first choices to come back eventually. Were Bowen to repeat his Championship scoring feats in the Premier then in a couple of years they will be after him and the sum we have paid will seem small.

To be fair, I don't think the same people who wanted young championship players are the same people who are saying he's just like Snodgrass. Loads of people on here with different views and opinions. Some really well thought out posts to some inane ones. That's why I I love it on kumb.

We've left it until the last week & still haven't actually plugged the main gaps. We're still short a right back & I'd say another centre midfielder.

If Rice/Haller/Fredericks get injured again - we are in no better position than we were at the beginning of the window.
The last paragraph isn't true is it tbf
If rice or haller get injured then we are in a better place than we were because we have another player in each position.
At the beginning of the window if Rice got injured it would be Sanchez and a Noble, now it would be Souceck and Noble
I hope Bowen goes up front and Haller spends a bit of time warming the bench

We could have done with a RB that is for sure but between Fredericks, zabaleta and Ngakia we aren't in the worst shape

I think it's mostly the former. These appear to be 2 low risk financial moves (1 a loan to buy, the other a purchase but with a release clause to get our money back if we go down), that tell me they are very scared of losing the PL TV deal bonanza.

Sully still employs some of his old porn movie makers at the club. Bowen would have had directions shouted at him from behind the camera during that clip along the lines of "Come on, give me filth you bad boy."

I can clear as day remember it being announced on Thursday that Hull had accepted an offer from Palace and feeling dejected. Then 24 hours of we may have gazumped etc. I hate it done to us but we have to do what's right to keep us up and move on.

If we stay up. If we keep our players and get some fit. If we add to our defence in the summer we could be back in the game.

Then. I would want a commitment to investigate a new purpose built training centre. Sell Chadwell and rush Green and get an academy and training ground we can be proud of.

Wasn’t expecting anyone so pretty chuffed with our business this Jan. However, we need to follow it up in the summer with two fullbacks, a Center midfielder and a striker (assuming we stay up and no-one leaves - anyone leaving will need replacing). Wishful thinking probably.

What a hillarious comment.

Have you forgot about Romero, Caballero, Bravo, Ward, Gazzaniga, Nyland.....

How about Adrian, cant forget him surely?

Even John Ruddy......

Randolph is about as good as Adrian. Better than Caballero (now, not a few years ago) Ward, Ruddy and Nyland.

Gazzaniga I would probably prefer due to age but he wasnt exactly good enough to replace Lloris and and Bravo and Romero are probably better...definitely Bravo.

We shipped out Arnautovic, Perez, Carroll and Hernandez in one window and replaced them with the French incredible sulk trying to play as 2 strikers.

I don’t doubt Bowen will do alright for us, but personally I think we’re now as dependant on Antonio and Yarmo getting fit as we are on any incoming player.

What a great list of 3rd rate keepers. Could make an argument Randolph was better than all of them.

Don't get the comparison. Bowen has scored 54 goals in his last 2.5 seasons. More like the Sterling of the C'ship.

Reflecting on this window, it’s definitely gone better than expected, but not sure it’s enough.

Credit to the board for signing Bowen - that’s one they deserve some credit for as he’s exactly the type of player we need in our situation. We also managed to get in a keeper to replace Roberto and potentially a decent new midfielder to strengthen that weak area.

On the other hand, right back remains a big issue, we still only really have one good keeper (Randolph is ok but Championshp standard really), and we are still reliant on our few good players to keep us up.

This Brighton game is beyond massive. Win it and I think we will be ok, as there won’t be too much of a confidence knock from the inevitable two defeats which will follow. Lose or draw and I just fear the team will be too low on confidence to pick up the needed points after being beaten by Man City and Liverpool.

I’d be intrigued to know what stopped another right back being bought, suggest it was imminent return of Fred combined with Ngakia doing well.

Very intrigued to know what else we tried to do, especially as it seems Bowen was a reactionary signing. Who we were trying to get in as a forward before Bowen and Palace made us react?

I think we’ve possibly done all the short term necessities, just whether it’s too late and whether the longer term solves can plaster over the cracks till summer.

I think part of the problem at RB was Fred returning, so a bit less pressing, made a loan more attractive, especially since there is a case to be made that going into the summer LB is a bigger concern. We went in for Kristensen earlier in the week, but RB Salzburg couldn't find a replacement they liked so they declined.

We were rumored for Wague today which would have been interesting, but Nice got him (could be a really good deal for them, 18 month loan, a 15M Euro option, and first right of refusal.)

Now that we didn't fill RB this winter, to be honest I think come summer LB should be the target. Fredericks is probably our best FB, and Masuaku seems easy to transfer for funds given his offensive talents as a WB/Winger. Cress is 30 now. Bringing in a new starting LB, promoting Ben Johnson who can play either side but prefers left i believe, and then maybe adding a backup FB on the cheap (with Ngakia waiting in the wings) makes a lot of sense.

Sure there hasn't been an admin mix up? Ighalo to West Ham United and Bowen to Man United would be much more credible.

It has to be seen as a successful window. The three players we have brought in improve the squad and no Sulli specials. If we can get Antonio and Anderson fit we should be ok.
