Old savers are very likely to be old homeowners. There has been a massive transfer of wealth from young to old of late.SammyLeeWasOffside wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:33 pm How much thought to older savers have young homebuyers given while interest rates were essentially 0? The issue isn't really with the voters. It's with the politicians for not caring about a demographic that don't vote for them.

Assets are only really worth anything if you cash them in. Lots of have some assets too.
The problem I guess is the only real way for most people to make assets grow is time.

If people are well off enough to save regularly that's a reward in itself. I have never understood the whole oh you should save to earn money on your savings. Im lucky to save and im just grateful to have that behind me rather than oh I should get extra money for no reason
It's complete tosh
Economy performs better with spenders majority of the time anyways
A lot of these well off older savers have benefited from property rises and bought second houses so I struggle to feel sorry when their rent on that home comes in

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
It largely depends on how much you are saving and for what purpose.mumbles87 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 7:55 pm Complete bugger all.

Pensions wouldn't perform well if held as cash and would effectively erode with inflation. It's the compound effect over decades that brings the value.
If you've only got a month or two worth of bills in savings then it wouldn't be prudent to bung it into a pension as you'd want the liquidity to access it in an emergency.
Also, depending on the fund a pension (or any other collective fund) is invested in, the monies used to invest in companies can be beneficial to the growth of the wider economy. Pensions in particular generally start in relatively higher risk funds for younger people as you would have time to keep saving if it didn't perform well. As you get older and need more protection, you then move it to a lower risk fund.

No, assets are worth something, it is only when you cash them in that they become liquid.SammyLeeWasOffside wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 4:45 pm Assets are only really worth anything if you cash them in. Lots of have some assets too.

The problem, well, a problem, is the massive disparity in wealth between young and old.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
Sorry to return to the Boris's Blow Job, but how on earth is this not the lead story on every news outlet ?
He was a serving minister at the time and his girlfriend obliged him at his place of work.
Gavin Williamson, it would appear, is the MP who walked in on him /them.
That's Sir Gavin thee days.
