Re: The Johnson Government 2019-2022
Richard Osman made me laugh with his comment that maybe Rushi would have benefited from having someone on his team with an Arts degree when shooting that video!
There is then the small problem that it is a near impossible task. The VAT legislation derived from European law is 2000 pages of legislation on its own.
More playing to the cheap seats while the real issues get ignored.

So shredding a load of EU law is suddenly going to help the average UK citizen? Pull the other one.
Desperate stuff to appeal to the ERG once again.

“Playing to the cheap seats” and “desperate stuff” sums it up chaps.
Worth remembering that that video wasn’t for the public - it was for the Tory party members. This is what Sunak knows/ believes is important to them. He either thinks they’re stupid/ knows them full well or perhaps, a bit of both.
And this **** is all they can offer when the country is at the edge of a precipice.

Agree on the desperation. Not sure he thinks it's important to them though so much as desperately trying to find a foot hold.DaveWHU1964 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 8:02 am “Playing to the cheap seats” and “desperate stuff” sums it up chaps.

Looking at the polls of members brexit comes out bottom or almost bottom on issues that they are bothered about. Sunaks problem is the other issues, mainly economic stuff.
Tory members think getting inflation under control is more crucial than tax cuts - so more sunaks plan. However at the same time they are massively in favour of any plan that cuts taxes. The think sunaks strategy on the economy is right but want the other one. If they aren't buying him on economic stuff then he is dead already.
He made the mistake of not just promising voters exactly what they want. People tend to vote for the party/person that they think will give them something imo.

Is it too fanciful to think that the pile of shredded paper at the end of it is meant to remind us of Johnson’s unruly mop?
Or a metaphor for the scrambled thinking so prominent in the candidates.
Gawd help us.

He is dead already. His view in the video attached to this article is the one that would be more attractive to more people in this country. Her simplistic, inadequate one, is the one getting the applause from the Tory membership …SammyLeeWasOffside wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 8:45 am If they aren't buying him on economic stuff then he is dead already.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-2022
I am sure Liz Truss is wearing an earpiece and is being fed what to say but in her jumbled up head it still comes out wrong.
Very worrying if she is the new PM because I really do not believe she is all the ticket.

She's also taken to wearing lighter shade foundation since the day that Johnson 'resigned'.
The symbolism is both simple and frankly worrying too.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-2022
Truss comes across as not quite human. Every smile is a grimace, every gesture stilted and every movement seemingly ran through a mental calculation before being executed. It's a bit weird.
Both of them are now at the 'saying any old mad ****' stage of the campaign, today Sunk was a socialist & Truss has just done major U-turn and tax cuts for the well off are the cure for everything. The folly of entrusting such a task with those who feel grammar schools and fox hunting are 'live' issues and ignore that we're facing a major social crisis with people dying from the cold and children arriving at school malnourished is beginning to show.
Just pick one already, it doesn't matter, their clapped-out ideology has brought us here and the only thing of value either can say is "The date of the next general election is..."

Surprised Raab is in the Sunak camp. As one of the authors of Britain Unchained with Truss, Kwarteng and Patel I thought he'd be with her all the way.
Perhaps even he can see that she'll be hopeless as PM.

Again, if it's Truss, I just don't see her lasting until the next GE; she's batshit crazy.Junco Partner wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:41 pmJust pick one already, it doesn't matter, their clapped-out ideology has brought us here and the only thing of value either can say is "The date of the next general election is..."
I think Sunak would stay the distance but the trouble is, it sounds like the party members with the vote, favour Miss Truss(t).
Absolutely crazy to think that Brexit got us here.

Classy from the former editor of labour list.
Starmer must just love it when these planks keep shooting the party in the foot.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-2022
You are ok with this sort of crap?
I've never voted Tory in my life, not that it should matter. Labour were right about the Rayner crap but seriously this sort of gutter smear advances politics and in particular women in politics how exactly?

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-2022
I agree Sam - it’s classless from the individual who tweeted this. Absolutely no need.
The only exception, imho, to that would be if whoever that tweet refers to, starts moralising to the rest of us about her perfect marriage/ safe sex/ need for fidelity that’d be a different matter. Hopefully for her, she’s not as stupid as she comes across, whoever that her is.
