It's too easy to just say adjust your spending but 27k take home is more than the average salary before tax. Her pension is one most people can only dream about.
I think a big part of the adjustment people are having to make is we have been manipulated over the last couple of decades to be an indebted society. Borrow and spend it will all be fine. Saving is pointless just keep fuelling the consumer machine. Low interest, cheap stuff, relatively low bills.
Before cost of living increase to petrol , food, energy I can imagine she didn't struggle

We can use buzz words like quick credit and must haves but that doesn't sound unreasonable maths
£800 mortgage leaving £1500 , council tax will come out , then the insurance , food, petrol .. I can't imagine much change once then new energy bills hit
Before that with petrol say £20 a week less .. and energy £10 a week less and food least £10 a week less that's a fair amount left ...
