Re: Guitar Corner
You'd think that if someone really wanted it they'd have bid at the auction. I'm not sure he'll get that price for it.Monkeybubbles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 11:49 am Wow. It sold at Gilmour's auction in 2019 for about $240k, now its being punted for $340k.

Re: Guitar Corner
I bet someone will pay it, unless Reverb is an unusual place to auction a high value instrument. Gilmour didn't use it much, but it was historically relevant for Floyd fans. He played it at Live 8 which was the last time the band played together. It was impossible to get onto the Christie's auction site during his guitar purge auction from a few years ago. Very few people were able to, or were allowed to log onto the site during the auction. I'm assuming it'll be easier to get a bid in this time around, and undoubtedly there will be someone out there who is a fan, has stupid money and is willing to piss it away.

Re: Guitar Corner
Not about a guitar per se, but an interesting interview with a slide virtuoso, Derek Trucks. Rick Beato always does a great job with the questions.

Nice one Pete.
I’m going to see them - Tedeschi Trucks - in November at the Palladium.

Don't know if you've seen them (or just him) before. If not, you're in for a treat.

Re: Guitar Corner
He's seems like a lovely feller, and he's undoubtedly an amazing guitarist. But then there's the ponytail......

Re: Guitar Corner
Just bought an Ibanez RG.
For the price, it's amazing. Great action, 24 frets, plenty of sonic possibilities with a five way pick up selector and it sounds superb through my practice amp at home and also through a Hughes and Kettner 120 watt head and a Marshall 4x12 cabinet in the studio.
Easier to play than my Les Paul too...so I've been working on some of Nuno Bettencourts stuff...'get the funk out' and 'play with me'.

Re: Guitar Corner
I have had a couple of RGs in the past (RG770s) and have one now. I don't mind the Wizard neck but I really ain't a fan of Floyd Rose trems. Great when they're working but a nightmare to change strings and set up.simon hammer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 6:46 pm Just bought an Ibanez RG.

Which H&K head do you have? I was looking at the Tri-Amp recently. Seems like a decent amp.

Re: Guitar Corner
Alas...mine is the cheap Ibanez RG without the trem.
At home I have a Line 6 spider 2 amp for practicing, which I sometimes take to the studio if we're playing stuff that needs me to switch between clean and distortion.
The studio provides the head and cabs...I was using and Orange head but it wasn't cutting through enough so I tried the H and K and it performed way better. Not sure what the model is ..I'm in the studio Thursday and Friday so I'll have a look.

Greatest Cockney Rip Off wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:45 pm Not sure about the guitars but Rickenbacker basses are utter gash (yes I know Lemmy used one). The bridge has to go down as the worst design for a bass bridge anywhere, even worse than the early Fender bass bridges to the point where they're almost non-functional for any action or intonation adjustments. Then there's the double truss rod - what idiot thought that would be a good idea? Trying to get the correct neck relief with two truss rods in the equation is just plain daft.
The sound is pretty average (although not unpleasant) but I just cannot get on with them. The biggest things for me though is the extortionate price for these things (they really aren't worth the money they cost) and also the ruthless way in which Rickenbacker CEO John C. Hall ruthlessly pursues copies of his basses and pulls eBay ads of people selling anything remotely looking like a 4001.

Re: Guitar Corner
They’re a little ridiculous looking, but I’ve always liked their look. As a musical instrument? Seems like their players don’t stick with them for long. Derek Smalls played one in the 60s which is good enough for me.
