Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks

Post by NorthernIron »

I was pleased to get the chance before our last game to talk pitchside about what we do in Newham. I think I was able to calm Ben Mundy's interview nerves, it was all done so quickly but I'm sure I remembered to thank UTJ and you folks on this forum for the support you give us. We'll be back collecting at the usual place tomorrow by the benches near the Aquatics Centre from 11 am for the Man U game.

These are the items that Newham Foodbank are short of:

UHT milk
pasta/rice
tinned soup
tinned tomatoes
tinned meat/fish
juice
snacks

Just an update that we've been able to secure a few 100 new winter coats from Arriva which are being distributed to Newham homeless. Umbro Manchester have also been in touch with Liam at Trans Pennine Irons and as a result we've secured a carload of sports equipment including 18 footballs, 70 pairs of trainers/boots, Irons and kids baby kits, tracksuits plus generic sports wear. The baby kits have gone off to the Magpie Project Refuge in Manor Park, and the sports gear is being delivered to the AAA Zone Arc in The Park in Canning Town next Saturday. Umbro will be making regular sportswear donations to us.

Thanks in advance COYI :hamm:

Thanks Igor for another donation to the foodbank last Sunday. Good to chat with you.

Newham Foodbank still counting the cash collected before the game, but with the previous games added, there must be £700-£800 in donations for Newham Foodbank, plus over 100 kg in food. Two lads from MUFC dropped off a bag of groceries for us; we dropped off a bag for their foodbanks before last night's game.

We'll be back again collecting next Thursday before the Europa League game, same place.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the foodbank appeal on Wednesday night. We collected about 50kg of food and approx £200 including some donations from Man City fans and extra food from the boat regulars.

Whilst I was waiting for the foodbank gear to arrive Bill Gardner walked past and came over to sit for a chat. We talked about his book and his life and he asked about what we were doing. After I told him we were also supporting Newham kids and the homeless, he says 'I was homeless once, I'll collect with you'.

Fair do's Bill stood there for half an hour shaking a bucket for us and says he'll come and do it again.

We’re back on site again tomorrow from 5pm collecting for Newham Foodbank and the selection boxes for local kids.

At the last home game Riverside School 6th formers helped collect over £760, plus we received a generous donation of £501 from London-based LFC Red Indians.

We’re back on site again tomorrow from 1030am collecting for Newham Foodbank and the selection boxes for local kids.

On Wednesday fans donated over £160 to the foodbank. If we can get over £240 tomorrow this will enable Newham Foodbank to buy £2,000-worth of necessities for distribution to the local community through the national foodbank supplier His Church. We hope that we can raise this amount for them every month.

The usual non-perishable items and toiletries needed for the Foodbank, thanks in advance :newthumb:

We’re back on site again tonight from 5pm collecting for Newham Foodbank and the selection boxes for local kids.

Last Saturday fans donated over £200 to the foodbank with a similar amount donated through the QR codes in the club lounges. This now allows Newham Foodbank to buy £2,000-worth of necessities for distribution to the local community through the national foodbank supplier His Church. We hope that we can raise this amount for them every month. £20,000-worth of food necessities provided by West Ham fans over a season.

The usual non-perishable items and toiletries needed for the Foodbank, thanks in advance. Just one tin will make a difference and allow one local child to not go to bed hungry at night.

We’re back on site again tomorrow from 12 noon collecting for Newham Foodbank for the 3rd time this week.

At the last 2 games our fans and visitors donated over £550 to the foodbank. If we can get over £250 tomorrow this will enable Newham Foodbank to buy £4,000-worth of necessities for distribution to the local community through the national foodbank supplier His Church. The Moore'd boats will also be asking for foodbank items or a cash donation in lieu of the usual entrance payment.

After tomorrow's game London Stadium PA announcer and club historian Martin Godleman will be signing copies of his 2 books Our Days Are Few and We're West Ham United We Play On The Floor, covering events in our 2003-04 and 2011-12 seasons in the Supporters' Club at the Last Drop bar.

The books are being sold at half the usual £10 price with all proceeds to Irons Supporting Foodbanks.

The usual non-perishable items and toiletries needed for the Foodbank, thanks in advance :newthumb:

We're back on site again tomorrow from 5pm for the Watford game, situated on Stratford Walk, by the benches before the boris bikes and Aquatics Centre.

In the last 2 weeks with donations received from fans, we've been supplying 4 pallet-loads of needed foods worth up to £8,000 for four local foodbanks. Together with those supplied by Newham Foodbank, that makes twelve foodbanks being supplied by West Ham fans. Thank you.

If you are passing by tomorrow please drop a bob or two in our collection buckets or bring along one of the following items that they are short of:

UHT milk
pasta/rice
tinned soup
tinned tomatoes
tinned meat/fish
juice
snacks

Thanks in advance :hamm:

There won't be any foodbank collection before tomorrow's game.

Unfortunately Storm Eunice has caused problems at St Marks where our collection equipment is kept.

We would always appreciate any donations at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ironssu ... dbanks2021

We've started our Easter egg campaign for Newham kids, last year fan contributions allowed us to distribute nearly 6,000 chocolate treats to kids who's families need to use foodbanks. Stadium DJ Russ Budden and I will be doing a fundraiser charity walk for the appeal on Saturday 19th March, from the Bobby Moore Wembley statue to the LS statue and then on to the World Cup statue on Green Street, where we'll have a welcome pint at the Boleyn, after the 17 mile walk.

Any support for the appeal would be welcome.

Thanks COYI :hamm:

Had the privilege of meeting NorthernIron yesterday.

He still collects by the swimming pool and apparently has some Pearly Kings lined up for the Everton game all coming to help send Frank down.

Sadly, donations are required more than ever. Keep giving people :newthumb:

Doc it was great to finally meet you yesterday, and the privilege was all mine. Thanks for dropping by.

We'll be back again on Thursday from about 5.30 pm, collecting from the same spot on Stratford walk. Every £400 we receive gets converted into a pallet-load of non-perishables worth up to £2,000. We're now in touch with 15 foodbanks across Newham.

Next Saturday the stadium DJ Russ Budden and I are doing a 17 mile charity walk to raise funds for Easter treats for Newham kids. We'll be leaving from the Wembley Bobby Moore statue at 10am, then heading for the LS 1965 statue, before finishing at the 1966 Green Street statue. Viv from Newham Bookshop has arranged a bit of a welcoming committee. If anyone wants to support us, donations can be made here: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ironssu ... dbanks2021

Then as Doc says, we've 3 generations of Pearlies coming to collect with us before the Everton game between 12 noon and 1 pm. The Pearly King and Prince (9 years old) of Highgate and the Pearly King of Mile End. A great East End welcome to our northern (pun intended) friends

Thanks for everyone's continued support :hamm:
