Even Jenny Harries this morning said people just need to remember to keep doing the basics - wash hands, wear a mask in confined spaces if you feel the need. She even admitted to not wearing a mask and only keeping one in her handbag just in case. This from the Chief Exec of the UK Health Security Agency.

What's the alternative? Re implement restrictions? f*** the economy up even more?

We had 21 new apprentices start on Monday, by Friday 4 were off, all with COVID (these are 18-20 year olds). I’ve spent most of the week in a small room with them…

I must admit since Omicron has taken over, I've pretty much switched off to covid. I still wash and sanitise my hands regularly, that's probably something that will never stop now, but other than that, I don't see what else there is to do.

Very grown up S-H. So I take it you agree that people should be wary of going into work meetings, or travelling? That's not an hysterical overreaction?

You know there's a Test Match, Wimbledon, festivals, and countless other mass situations going on where people are getting on with their lives without fear? And that 99% of the country is getting on with their lives? But I'm a bellend for suggesting that people are some are becoming hysterical again because cases are on the rise?

Being wary of spending time in higher risk situations can hardly be described as "hysterical" IMO. Avoiding the office for a while and doing your meetings via Zoom or whatever if you can get away with it seems like a pretty reasonably precaution to take.

Because people are getting on with their lives it doesn't make the situation good - if you are not working from home or have children that are at school you are likely heavily exposed, but I don't see how that is a reason not to stress about it. I don't fancy a trip to A&E really, or long term-damage to my lungs, or any of that other stuff.

Had an email from HR this morning. Seems large numbers have called in this morning unwell and many have tested positive for Covid. I'm wfh today so 'safe'. Been asked to test in the morning if feel 'rough' and basically not to come in if positive. Many of those 'out' are our new apprentices who are almost all 16-18 (phoning in sick on your second Monday - not sure I'd be doing that) .

The workforce is young, I'm an oldie at 44 and a lot of people are unwell with this currently, I've spoken (last week) to a couple of gym going (well built) guys who were 'knocked out' for about a week by it, has something changed, new variant, jab protection fading? This is Manchester btw so most of you are safe...

Four drop outs from our 7 a side football this evening. All got covid, picked up at different locations. First time in months any of the group have had it. Two of the lads report that they're really feeling rough.

There you have it. Irrefutable, incontrovertible concrete evidence that there's something in the air.

After 2.5 years of avoiding it, I have been shacked up with it all weekend. Mrs has it too, worse than me actually. Mine is just like a cold with a really chest cough. I can still taste etc. Her second time of having it now as well.

Was starting to think I was kryptonite to it.

But, you have been persistent from the very start of this thing, with your attitude towards people, you appear to be the only one on here who comes across as hysterical, isn't it up to individuals how they choose to go about their lives, as long as it's not affecting you why get so wound up about it.

I am, like the majority of the country getting on with life as normal, but completely understand and sympathise with those who are still reluctant to do so, each to their own.

Apologies again for the name calling, I'm sure you're a perfectly lovely bloke, but on this particular subject, from day dot, you have been relentless.

You know as well as I Richie that for certain posters on certain subjects there is just no point. It is like the anti Moyes lot on the GD. Just waiting for a opening to crawl out and repeat the same stuff over and over. Not saying that name calling is the right response, but I can understand why someone who is ill, along with their family, would have an emotive response.

I haven't seen anyone outside of a few crazies on social media calling for restrictions. All I've seen on here is people passing on anecdotes and isolating when they are ill.

TBH the one positive out of Covid is that people no longer come into the office with the or coughing their guts up.

I had a sickness bug a week or so back (which ironically probably stopped me getting Covid) and could just WFH whereas pre all this I'd have been under pressure to pop a few imodium and get on with the commute etc probably passing it on to a few people along the way.

And you're right, it's up to people to live how they wish; FWIW I don't get wound up about it, but I do think that the country's response (indeed much of the World's response?) since day one has ultimately caused undue misery, pressures and problems that will manifest themselves for decades to come. Yes, I think this should have been handled very differently, and yes, I get that most people won't agree with me. But I regret the mess and the economic woes that my grandkids (and your little 'un) will have to try to clear up - the younger generation will, I believe, suffer profoundly - that's not meant to sound political in any way. But I believe it to be true. I genuinely feel sorry for them.

I also know that there are countless people who have suffered mentally with the impact of lockdowns, social distancing etc. I wrote two years ago on the impact of said measures on a friend and in particular his wife who simply went into a shell and refused to come out - for two years she did not go into a shop or socialise with anyone other than her husband and her daughter through fear of dying of Covid. On a Zoom call the other day he told me she was showing signs of retreating again following renewed press coverage of rising cases etc. He is in despair. I'm sure there are thousands of others who will also be getting very nervy by the renewed interest of the gutter press in what is now a far less dangerous disease.

Apologies if I've come across as hysterical and relentless. I'll back off. And yes, I think I'm a perfectly lovely bloke (though my wife might have something to say about that). In any case hope you and the family feel better soon. All the best.

My 10-11 month old tested positive this morning. No symptoms, but his nursery had it and my wife was going to see my sister in law today so did a test to be safe.

The second line came up almost immediately, not that it means anything I take it, but means our plans for the week are very much changed.

I work from home still so I'm not testing yet, but my boss is back next week and we are 'meant' to do a day a week in the office so going to save it for then to get out of it. Silver linings and all that

Wife and I tested positive for the first time last week. She was really poorly straight away and I was fine. She’s managed to shake it off now. I woke up in the night Friday shivering, aching all over, now got the rest of the symptoms and can’t seem to get rid of it
