Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
firstly we shouldnt be selling soucek, we should be adding to the vast numbers of CM we have; 2 ! however he is not worth 100k and his reported contract of 70k pw is about right. last season both he and coufal were poor.
Hopefully after some rest this summer they will be back to their best. moyes looking to bring bissouma in will hopefully raise soucek`s game. competition is healthy. we could play all 3 at some top 6 games.otherise plenty of games to rotate fo !
if soucek wants to go then 45m should be the starting point ! hopefully he stays. I think he will.
we need to add to the squad not sell off the better players. sell the dross we still have masuaka randolph vlasic.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
I can't really see why so much people want to sell him.
Last season he was arguably one of the best (or more useful is the better word) midfielders in the league. He covered most miles in the PL, by big difference. He won mist duels, most aerial duels..... 2nd in those charts was Benteke with something like 50 won duels less.
His goals have dried up and his performances have dropped, but at least he needs to get another season to prove doubters wrong. You won't sign anyone for the incoming money who can replicate those stats he delivered.

But... But... But... He didn't score 10 goals again.
5 goals from defensive midfield is still excellent, and his defensive contribution can't be argue with.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
If it is contract related then as I've said already I'd sell. You don't keep unhappy players and as much as I like Soucek he does have a ceiling as a player so a long term big money contract doesn't necessarily make sense to me.
On the non contract related front it appears to all be about Rice and whether you think Tomas is holding him back. There is also the "next level" idea which again seems to be about keeping Rice. Soucek somehow doesn't fit into that as "next level" seems to be some form of Barcelona lite. Maybe someone should tell Conte over at Spurs...
For me it is the other way round. Pandering to Rice is holding back Soucek.
Rice is a brilliant player, but I think the fear of losing him is driving far too much of the discussion around other players. For me his leaving is inevitable, isn't quite the end of the world and so I'm much less willing to sacrifice players like Soucek in the vain hope of keeping Rice.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
I believe that Moyes is already looking for Declan Rice's replacement - the interest shown in Kalvin Phillips and now maybe John McGinn , these aren't players you buy to complement Rice and Soucek , they're a replacement for one or the other and to me I think Moyes is thinking ahead to the time Rice is no longer a West Ham player - better to get him now than when we've got whatever fee Rice attracts and the prices inevitably go up .MB wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 8:40 am

This is bang on, it's almost a bit xenophobic and because he isn't English, he is far better than 90% of players people want to replace him with, played in the Euros, Champions League, Europa League, big part of the Czech squad, it's madness, call him Thomas Stevenson and people would be all over him.Belgian Iron wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 7:38 am I can't really see why so much people want to sell him.

Also you're bang on with the most miles, duels, aerial duels etc, people want to replace him with people half the size, who can't do any of that!

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
Both Soucek and Coufal dropped below the previous years levels, but that was an extraordinarily high standard. Both have moved country, joined a league light years in advance of Czech domestic football, played almost every international fixture, and we’ve just had our heaviest fixture load for years. Coufal played through a hernia until it became impossible, Soucek accommodated Rice’s demands to swap positions and shed blood for the cause halfway across the country. Yes they slipped a bit from what we saw a year earlier, but with a few weeks rest my money says they are back at their best, pretty close to best performers across the Premier in their positions, totally dedicated to our cause, and key elements in creating the spirit that’s so important to our team results.fmgod wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 10:55 am This is bang on, it's almost a bit xenophobic and because he isn't English, he is far better than 90% of players people want to replace him with, played in the Euros, Champions League, Europa League, big part of the Czech squad, it's madness, call him Thomas Stevenson and people would be all over him.

And they were still pretty effective last season…..

The amount of loyalty some fans show towards our players baffles me beyond belief. If they (the players) were as fickle as that they'd be chased out of the club post haste

Were you sad that Fredericks, Yarmolenko and Martin didn’t get renewed?wasserburg_hammer wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 1:11 pm The amount of loyalty some fans show towards our players baffles me beyond belief. If they (the players) were as fickle as that they'd be chased out of the club post haste
Loyalty isn’t real in football. On both sides. Player and fans. Everyone is only as loyal as their options.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
Dec and Tomas, with another Playmaker along side in a 4-3-3 is the way to go for us to go i reckon,or at least use that system as and when,
we have 2 parts of it, need the 3rd......not sure either Fornals or Lanzini are up to it TBH...way way to inconsistent and unreliable
at times.
Ericksonesque player in with those 2 ...Perfect.
Paper talk/Click Bait over Dec now Tomas and other stuff is laughable at times..

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
Yarmo is a brilliant pro but is getting on a bit. Martin, well, he did have that one game for us. As for Fredericks - he is quick but lacks the skill and does seem to have a hammy made of gummy bears. Still quite liked him when he came on for us.Aztec Hammer wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 1:33 pm Were you sad that Fredericks, Yarmolenko and Martin didn’t get renewed?

As regards loyalty. Of course you are right and I am still clinging to the likes of Nobes and have high hopes for Rice. But the way both our Czechs are playing their heart out for us simply doesn't tally with some of the undignified comments here.
All my opinion of course

He's one of the key factors in our improvement over the last two season.
Show him some love.

This comforts me some. I so hope he stays, the perfect foreign player fit for us. With him and Fornals, you can really feel the identification with the club.

Dropping standard while wanting paid for prior standard is a bad negotiating strategy. Im a huge fan of his but he simply isn’t worth the wages he wants.1895Hammer wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 11:24 am Both Soucek and Coufal dropped below the previous years levels, but that was an extraordinarily high standard.
Coufal got his big contract and promptly dropped off a cliff.

It’s not quite that simple though…he has 3 years left on hisIroning Board wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:13 pm Dropping standard while wanting paid for prior standard is a bad negotiating strategy. Im a huge fan of his but he simply isn’t worth the wages he wants.

contract and the club is now, when there’s really no need to, likely asking him to extend until he’s 32/33…
Looking at the increased sign-on fees players are getting, if you’re Soucek, and you’re coming off three seasons where your performance would average (over 38 PL games) 5-10 goals from a DM, of course you’d try to ask for something in exchange for missing out on what could be a large sign on fee plus wage package at the end of your current contract
Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
Is Soucek any less valuable to the overall team performance than Zouma?
Whilst we do not need to decide immediately there are players who deserve to be paid significantly above the average and I believe Bowen and Soucek are two of those given their all around contributions, age etc.
When it comes to agreeing terms do we offer either of them what might prove to be their most lucrative contract of their career to stay with us through the majority of their prime years or sell them and let someone else do this.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
I think the poor guy has had about 3 weeks off since lockdown. Pleased for us Czech haven’t qualified for the WC, this summer and that month will do him the world of good. As will bringing in a third high quality CM so they can rotate a bit. His ‘poor form’ is still better than all but one central midfielder (Rice) that we’ve had in 20 years +.

Re: Welcome Tomas Soucek
been poor in passing lately, for a while I think, but for me, one of the first names on the team sheet.
never shies away, always there when it comes to putting his body on the line. bit like Sir Craig. smashed in the face with blood pouring out of his head, got up and tried to head the ball away.
by all accounts stayed later than the rest at training and for me, if that's true and I have no reason to doubt it, brought a new philosophy to the club.
give him a rest.
very understated member of the first XI.. usually wins most aerial duels of anyone on the pitch.
can't put a price on that.

Absolutely spot on.PF. wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:11 pm He’s so often back in a position cutting passing lanes allowing us to regroup after an attack it’s ridiculous.
It’s one of those roles you don’t really see unless specifically watching out for it, and it certainly wouldn’t show on isolated stats.
More important to the starting XI than most realise is our Czech Warrior.
I also think he’s been a brilliant partner to support Rice’s stratospheric growth into a world class midfielder.
It will probably add to those that imply he's rubbish with the ball but one of Soucek's strengths is just how good he is without it. The amount of passes he intercepts is unreal, regularly positioning himself excellently to stop teams from steam-rolling through us. This is most evident when he doesn't play.
