Only in America. She should have shot him, she'd have been fine then.

To a mostly rural island where there are no resources to process these people nor provide refuge or services for them. These people weren't even in Florida. they were in Texas. DeSantis used Florida tax money to ship them to Martha's Vineyard. I get the point he and other officials are trying to make, but exploiting vulnerable human beings by using them to make a political stunt is just plain wrong.

Illicitly. Not as a matter of "policy". You'll find police rounding up some homeless and mentally ill people and driving them to another city and dumping them there. Obviously that's also ****ed up. But sending these people to an island where there's no infrastructure whatsoever to help them, and where they're literally stuck because, well because it's an island. That's next level inhumanity.

I remember years ago reading about one US State which put its homeless people on a plane to Hawaii.

Back in 2014 there was this podcast out called Serial. It was about the murder of an 18 year old girl in 1999 and her boyfriend being found guilty despite there not being that much evidence.

At the time many expected a retrial but that didn't happen.

Now prosecutors are saying let him go as they don't think the conviction is a good one.

Bloke's now 42 & been banged up since he was a teenager.

Yeah, I commented about this on a Podcast thread in the snug. they also said they weren't necessarily saying they think he's innocent, only that there is a lot more information and new witnesses and suspects that have come to light.

It's an excellent pod, btw. Still worth a listen if you've never heard it.

I was one of the millions waiting for the new episode each week. I was expecting some massive bombshell evidence in the final one.

I still wasn't sure either way afterwards.

Me neither. The only thing I was certain about is that his attorney was a disgrace and that there would have to be a retrial, which as you said, never happened. His case was inconclusive to me though.

Yep, after it all I wanted it to not be him but I had a suspicion it was but there wasn't really any evidence. Definitely nothing 'beyond a reasonable doubt'.

That’s the point with a lot of these cases in America. Is there a chance he did it? Of course. Beyond a reasonable doubt? Absolutely not. It was a weak, circumstantial case based on ‘witness testimony’ mainly. In the Uk I don’t think the CPS even authorise a charge based on what they had.

Whatever he is or isn't doing, to my knowledge it doesn't include conducting stunts like this.

Someone has to bring it into the spotlight as the current administration are pretending it’s not happening!

Irrelevant. I’m asking what is Biden and his administration doing about the actual crisis? As usual posters are only interested in Trump stories or negative Republican stories.

Anyway no worries, thought one of the US based posters might know what’s being done to tackle this or the homeless crisis in the cities or the drug addiction crisis? No doubt it’ll be discussed at length in the Biden thread! Don’t want to get in trouble again.

Are you seriously underplaying the gravity of this as just a "negative Republican story"? It is a disgusting human act designed to have people who have come to the US to escape an awful situation, tricked & essentially deported through no fault of their own.

You've confirmed its whataboutery then... as you mentioned, if youre asking about a Biden action or policy, surely the Biden thread is the place for it?

Macca - you class that as just a “negative Republican” story? Nothing more?

Don’t you think that the people who did that to those migrants must be horrible, lying, nasty bastards who you wouldn’t want to share the same planet with? Got anything to say about them?

Or do you actually support this kind of treatment of fellow human beings? I ask because up to now you’ve not indicated that it in either of your posts responding to the video.
