Didn't he eat Mcdonalds 3x a day for 30 days and nearly die?

Nearly die is stretching is for dramatic effect. His girlfriend was a vegan and had some 'fringe views' of nutrition so the film has a bias to it.

It was used teaching Science (when I did that) for both the dietary discussion and a look at bias and the scientific process (High set GCSE and Alevel)

The Voyager 1 spacecraft is sending "impossible data" from outer space. It sounds a bit 2001 to me:

Murdoch has taken defeat for his preferred party in the Aussie elections well. Nice little preview of what we can expect from his new "news" channel when the Tories are finally turfed out over here.

They lost to the left wingers because they weren’t right wing enough is basically the same argument that the Corbynites ran with.

Interesting and scary on a number of levels.

https://www.thesciverse.com/2022/05/ai- ... x-ray.html
"According to new research, deep learning models based on artificial intelligence can identify someone's race merely by looking at their X-rays, which would be impossible for a human doctor looking at the same photos"
More worrying
" Artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to replicate human thinking in order to discover patterns in data fast. However, this means it is susceptible to the same biases unintentionally. Worse, their intricacy makes it difficult to divorce our prejudices from them.

Scientists are now unsure why the AI system is so good at identifying race from photographs that don't appear to contain such information. Even with minimal information, such as omitting hints about bone density or focusing on a tiny portion of the body, the models were very good at predicting the race represented in the file.

It's likely that the system is detecting melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, in ways that science has yet to discover."
So potentially racist AI that can detect things in ways we don't understand that will be used by morally corrupt mega-corps and dodgy governments..... I can't wait.

Saw something about this recently on Netflix or similar , some woman who did some kind of programming talked about how various biases were being baked into AI and how it will get worse each generation, as they start self programming/ having baby AI's or whatever it is going to be.

Very scary stuff indeed, but was a bit too heavy, so (you might be able to tell) I didn't watch the full programme.

They won’t need to. They’ll just take over after we’ve done the job for them.

Surely it's how the information can be used that has the potential for racism, not how it came about?

No the AI inherits the biases of the creators, intended or not.

‘Cognitive biases originating from human developers influences machine learning models and training data sets. Essentially, biases get hardcoded into algorithms. Incomplete data itself also produces biases — and this becomes especially true if information is omitted due to a cognitive bias.’

RMT votes for national strike
Railway workers in the RMT union have voted in favour of strike action across Network Rail and 15 train operating companies.

The strike ballot of National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers saw 89% vote in favour of a strike and 11% against.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said "members want a decent pay rise, job security and no compulsory redundancies".

Some 71% of RMT's 40,000 members voted.
