Did you go shaved head for the weekend, or just get yourself one of those rubber bald head wig type things?Shabu wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 8:42 am My missus is a Buddhist. Her whole family are and so are most of our Laotian and That community here. I was also a Buddhist monk for a weekend when my father in law died (messed my knees up)
I was just joking about the Sri Lankans setting fire to the swimming pool. No need to take my comment seriously

Shaved head, eyebrows, tash & my goatee which I think makes me look like Marvin Hagler.Hummer_I_mean_Hammer wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 8:48 am Did you go shaved head for the weekend, or just get yourself one of those rubber bald head wig type things?
Orange robe, not allowed to have any physical contact with women & only eat once a day.
Funny, the food is prepared by local Thai & Lao women & there was a proper spread. A big table full of delicious curries & rice & papaya salad, spicy wings, jerky & all sorts. In the middle of the table was a bag from a fast food place containing a burger & fries. It was in a room at the temple & the male monks eat first then all the women. There were about a dozen of us blokes & the women sitting a bit back all together. Everyone of them was looking at me, the only white person there, thinking that I'd go straight for the burger (which they'd bought especially for me :lol: )

I'll be honest, I do not remember this event at all. I would have been 16 at the time (1985) so not exactly a kid.
Anyway, they say revenge is a dish best served cold & that's certainly true in this case. I'm sure they'll be a lot of happy relatives celebrating in Canada & India tonight.

They eat EVERY part of the animal.simonpaulthomas wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 8:41 pm Why was there meat at a Buddhist temple? That’s definitely against the rules!
My Missus loves Chicken Feet Salad.
One of the monks has a Porsche & a BMW. He comes round to our house in them, in his orange robes, with flash shades on, handing out blessings like a Laotian Tom Cruise
As Hummer said, the average Buddhist is nothing like they're portrayed in mainstream media. My lot are more into ancestor worship. They focus more on dead relatives than on Buddha himself.

Re: In other news
On Bhuddists (how do you spell that?) my wife did some work at a refugee/asylum seeker place in Sheffield, and as she speaks Farsi she can understand some Pashto.
She overheard two Afghans talking about a Buddhist bloke thus;
"What's he then?"
"He's a Buddhist"
"Oh, what do they do?"
'They sit on their b*llocks all day thinking"

If I frapped myself outside Waitrose they wouldn't arrest me, they'd give me a five year contract and a permanent pitch by the cash machines. And so would all of you seatsniffers.
