"A city in Japan has been forced to apologise after a contractor admitted he had lost a USB memory stick containing the personal data of almost half a million residents after an alcohol-fuelled night out.
Officials in Amagasaki, western Japan, said the man – an unnamed employee of a private contractor hired to oversee Covid-19 relief payments to local households – had taken the flash drive from the city’s offices to transfer the data at a call centre in nearby Osaka."

Re: In other news
This could go on one of several threads, so I'll just drop it here.
US Senator John Cornyn from Texas, in response to a tweet Of Barack Obama's re: the SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade:
In Plessy v Ferguson from 1896 SCOTUS ruled that racial segregation laws did not violate the U.S. Constitution as long as public facilities (e.g. public toilets) for each race were equal in quality.
Brown v Board of Education from 1954 ruled that segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional, and more or less invalidated segregation laws.
So, on the world's most public forum a US Senator is advocating bringing racial segregation back as law to our former President, who happens to be black.
The confederates are alive and well, and they are emboldened.

Re: In other news
I'm obviously not an american and I've never heard of Cornyn, but I read his response very differently. I interpreted it as (him thinking) Obama was complaining that the supreme court outlawed something that had been legal for fifty years, and Cormyn brought up something else the supreme court overturned after fifty-odd years of it being legal and was wondering what Obama thought about that.

Re: In other news
Well, if his thought was that overturning an anti segregation law was wrong, then the point still stands. That is what he is saying. He is suggesting the SCOTUS should look at Brown v Board of Education again with an eye toward overturning that.

Re: In other news
Sorry, I re-read my reply and tried to make it make more sense before you replied.
The point I was trying to make, and failing, was that I read Comyn's response as him thinking Obama was saying the supreme court shouldn't be changing 'fifty years of precedent' because things had been that way for fifty years. Comyn then introduced another precedent that had been overturned after fifty plus years and was asking Obama if he still held the 'don't overturn fifty years of precedent' view.
You obviously know more about Comyn's views than I do (I'd never heard of him until now) and which explanation of his response is more likely. I latched on to 'don't overturn fifty years of precedent' as his main thrust and ran with it.
Once again, apologies for altering my initial response, it was done with the best of intentions.

Re: In other news
An Uber delivery driver was on her last drop off when an angry man pulled up alongside her & was acting strange.
Later she was found dead, from a gunshot wound, in her car. Luckily she had taken a photo of him before he shot her, otherwise they'd be none the wiser.
I have to say, looking at the bloke, I'm surprised he did this. He looks so placid.

Re: In other news
No need to apologize. Thought I was seeing things for a minute, that's all. Cornyn, and a lot of other officials are feeling emboldened at the moment. SCOTUS is trying to send us back to the mid 20th century, apparently. They let Jesus have his day today by opening the door to prayer in schools again. A friend of ours who is an attorney who has been working on women's rights law for years says that there will be a slew of controversial very conservative leaning decisions made in the next few weeks. Stay tuned, they're just getting started. SCOTUS is trying to make foundational changes in one big sweep.Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 2:57 pm Sorry, I re-read my reply and tried to make it make more sense before you replied.

Re: In other news
A bloke in Florida leaves his 8 year old son in a hotel room with his girlfriends 2 girls, aged 1 & 2.
Son finds his gun & fires it. The bullet passes through the 1 year old, killing her, and hits the 2 year old.
Dad returns to the room & takes the gun & his drugs then leaves.
He was arrested then released on bail.

Re: In other news
But at least their constitution entitles them to have their kids shoot each other !
The younger kids should have been armed as well to prevent it !
