Re: The kids are all right
I see Nathan Holland scored a 96th minute winner for Oxford. Well done that lad. It’s never over until……
See also Coventry made a good contribution at MK.
With all the u23s & u18 hitting form, plus the loan outs, surely we can unearth a gem before season end? Even if we end up selling him (not preferred, but). We need a return on the u23 investment please.

Re: The kids are all right
holland is 24 now and found his level, he isnt PL standard.
cventry looked ok pre season but sent out on loan. now kral is a disaster and no doubt going in the summer we will see if coventry hangs around the squad for next season.
longello chesters perkins okoflex ashby alese are the next lot to get a chance with us. how many will be good enough, we shall see. ashby and longello looked good in the EL but te PL is a different story.
lets hope a few are good enough !

Been massively impressed with Alese on and off the pitch this season and this hammers it home: https://theathletic.com/3120386/2022/02 ... e-step-up/

Re: The kids are all right
I may be going out on a limb here, but personally I would rather we give younger players like Alese and Coventry (as examples) first team chances than keep some of the not quite good enough older players at the end of their current contracts. We have to develop some more of our own now otherwise what’s the point of the u23 process.Sarfas wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 1:12 am Been massively impressed with Alese on and off the pitch this season and this hammers it home: https://theathletic.com/3120386/2022/02 ... e-step-up/
Why buy others up and coming unproven potential?

What older CB at the end of their contract is getting game time that Alese could be having?Bond Holder 59 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 4:36 pm I may be going out on a limb here, but personally I would rather we give younger players like Alese and Coventry (as examples) first team chances than keep some of the not quite good enough older players at the end of their current contracts. Coventry is playing every week at MK Dons, that's the right place for him.

Re: The kids are all right
Of course it’s all about opinions, but I would rather have Coventry on our bench than Kral (if we are not going to play him) but I would give Coventry some game time and then decide in or out at season end. Use him or sell him. He’s playing well at MK I read in their local. I accept we don’t know if he can step up, but there’s only one way to find out for sure.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 5:10 pm What older CB at the end of their contract is getting game time that Alese could be having?

Imagine selling him for £500k only for the next club to sell him for £10m to a prem club.
I liked what I saw in pre season, against Brentford and Celtic.
Regarding Alese, again only what I read, but he’s doing well in first squad training apparently. He needs the same chance as we gave Oxford…..and Dec, otherwise again how will we know? He looked the part in those early rounds of Europa.
At age 22’sh you can probably judge the man and the player.
For me seeing youngsters coming through, and I have seen a few over 60 years of watching the ‘ammers, is up there. Everything in front of them. Chance to live my dream, if only I had been a contender.

Tbh, I fully trust Moyes to make these calls. He watches them closely. He integrates them into the first-team training. If he thinks the kids are good enough, he'll give them chances.Bond Holder 59 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 4:36 pm I may be going out on a limb here, but personally I would rather we give younger players like Alese and Coventry (as examples) first team chances than keep some of the not quite good enough older players at the end of their current contracts. Coufal's form hasn't "dipped" - he had a hernia operation, had an op and hasn't played for 6 weeks!
I think Ben Johnson has done well enough, but right now Vlad is stillthe best RB at the club.
Just hope that Johnson doesn't get lost by virtue of his versatility - it sometimes happens that players become "jack of all trades" rather than specialists

2 hernia ops, that's rough on him...
I think his form had dropped "a little", if fully fit though he would be No.1. Johnson is pushing him though, great to see from him.

Re: The kids are all right
With Dawson out, I'm hoping some of the youth team get a chance, it's the perfect time to do so, they might even surprise us and put in some decent performances.
Re: The kids are all right
Won 5-0 against Derby last night. Perkins (x2), Nevers, Yarmolenko (one for the future) and Mubama scoring.
Finished 2nd in our league behind Manchester City. League is finished now, so any more game time the U23's will get this season is in the first team.
We also won the U17 London Cup the other week; Earthy, Marshall and Mubama featuring prominently in the final: https://www.whufc.com/news/u17s-claim-l ... rsenal-win

Still in with a shout of the u18s southern title (then a play off with the Northern winner)Sarfas wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 3:32 pm Won 5-0 against Derby last night. Perkins (x2), Nevers, Yarmolenko (one for the future) and Mubama scoring.

Re: The kids are all right
It's nice to see the youngsters winning some games but surely their development would be improved if they were playing in "proper" football instead of the Under 23 league. I haven't watch any U23 games since before all the Covid nonsense but the games I did see I thought the standard was about National League level. Better surely to get the lads out on loan at a decent level instead of playing against other "learners" like themselves.
Re: The kids are all right
Love how the full backs attack in that Derby game.
Shame Ashby won't get any time on the pitch against Norwich or Brighton.
With Coufal and Johnson fighting it out for the right back spot, we must try and get him a decent loan club next season.

Re: The kids are all right
All you get on social media slagging off Moyes for not playing the entire youth team this season.
Apparently Moyes never plays youth players and will kill our academy.
Ignoring how much he brought Rice through in his first spell, brought Johnson through in this spell, as well as giving debuts to Ngakia, Cullen, Martinez, Alese, Baptiste, Ashby, Perkins, Chesters and Longelo.
God I hate social media.
