Dell website. Use code VCLOUD8 to get a discount, and order it without windows (you can buy a windows key for £6 off cdkeys.co.uk) and it should show as £551

Bear in mind the gfx chip only has 4GB, which means it’s only good for medium settings at best, although DLSS will improve frame rates at the expense of a little fidelity.

My current rig is mainly used for rendering but it's also used for the occasional game:

4 x RTX 2080 Ti 11GB
core i9 10900X
128 GB DDR4

Put together in a big tower with water cooling, usually lighting it up in claret and blue :hammb:

What the hell are you rendering on that? The exact position of every atom in the universe?

Render monsters need massive processing power. Back when I moonlit as an editor I had a pretty serious rig like that.

Currently don't have anything that serious, because all I use it for is gaming and some light UI work.

Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core
64gb DDR4
GeForce RTX 3060
Asus Prime X570-Pro
750 GT Supernova Gold
Samsung 1TB SSD (x3)
Asus 165Hz 27" 2k HDR (x2)

All sorts of images and videos, mostly of furniture wihch are used for web shops (for example):

Depending on the material and details a picture takes between 1-4 Minutes in 4k so if you have to render a sofa with +600 pictures it takes a bit of time. Same goes for an animation with 30 fps in 4k. The render engine I use (Octane) is a GPU render so the more GPUs you have, the better & quicker. Luckily I bought the parts before the 3000 Series of Nvidia were released and prices went completely nuts.

Haven’t had much time with it yet, but on first glance it seems to perform admirably. 130fps on Doom Eternal at high settings 1080p. Manages 35fps on 4k, which it’s not really specced for, but impressive nonetheless. On par with my series S, possibly a little faster. Bought a 500Gb SSD as the 256Gb NVME2 is a bit small for big game downloads.

FWIW we picked up a Razer Blade 15 Base for Mstr UtJ in the end as Amazon were doing a deal at the time (£400 off RRP). Also felt 256GB drive was a little too small and this came with 512GB, 16GB RAM and a 3060 card, which should be future proof for a good five years or so (by which time he can get a job and buy his own toys).

Nice! Well-reviewed kit, that Acer. Might want to think about adding another 8GB ram to it, about as easy an upgrade as it gets on a laptop, but only if you think you’re running short 👍

It's a great bit of kit. It can get a bit noisy when gaming due to the big fans underneath.

Sound from internal speaker is OK, but amazing through headphones.

Picture quality is brilliant

Yeah the fans on mine are pretty lairy when I load up a recent game. I bought a laptop cooling pad for mine - a fairly simple perforated aluminium frame with fans set in it to keep the laptop elevated and improve airflow. Might be worth looking at one to aid cooling and potentially improve lifespan.

Picked up a new monitor, too. 27” 1080p 144hz gsync HDR10. Not the last word in sophistication but a damn sight better than the crappy 22” one work sent me.
