Doesn’t that keep you warm?

I work from home and have it off all day and just put a jumper on. The lowest it goes is about 18 ish anyway which is pretty decent.

Had to hide the hive thermostat as my eldest plays with it and whacks the boost on accidentally.

We got a new boiler this time last year and they gave us the wrong hive kit (one for non-combi boilers), but didn't take the old one away when they replaced it, so have that sitting there I'm trying to flog.
I've moved hive thermostat for the winter as in living room it says a solid 19 degree

In the hall it comes down to 14/15 a lot so would always be on lol

Going on for an hour tonight then the air con in he heating mode will make sure the twins stay comfortable
Uses bugger all electric anyways so might aswell

When the engineers came I assume they tested the system via the Hive and any other controls you have?
The fact that it works on boost indicates to me that there can't be a lot wrong with the system.
Have you tried switching off the heating then setting the Hive to call for hot water alone?
If so does the boiler click in when you do this?
And when you say boost, is that a function of Hive or on the boiler itself?
Possible bypass valve failure but your engineer should have tested for this, unless they were sent by British Gas.
As for your question as regards having the hot water on all day, almost certainly this will cost more because everytime the water cools naturally the boiler will fire up again, even if you're not actually using any water.
Seems a waste to me but a lot depends on if you need hot water all day long.
Boost is a function on hive it's basically turns water/heating on anytime you want it. As for the bypass valve I think hope he checked it when he went in the loft to check the tank. They are here on Tuesday so ... Don't know about the immersion bit as I thought the boiler did all the work. Took dog out for 40 mins while on boost and low and behold hot water!!
Might just have to add another hour to the water but it was on long enough to warm it plus it was on 30 mins after Mrs E went out.

The boiler does do all the work,.immersion heaters are used for storage and for heating water In emergencies. This is where your valves will be not in the loft.
You do have an immersion heater?

No immersion heater all on the boiler (not Mrs E). What gets me is that the old 2007 boiler could handle it !

I'm a little confused, am sure you said earlier that you don't have a combi type boiler.
You also refer to some sort of tank in the loft.
Where is the hot water stored if it's not in an immersion?
What's the make and model of your boiler Eastcote?

Yeah dropped to 14 degrees in my front room/office before I gave in about 1pm. Temp out side was 4 degrees then. Got my 6 month bill today, only up £200 up on last year (and I was at home from September as not working) so pretty good, usage was down too. With rebate I'm about the same as last year with the real pain to come Nov-May next time.

Might get some frost. Remember that kids? Wasn’t that long ago your scrape the frost off the car with a cassette case for weeks on end. Now it’s once or twice a winter (not with a cassette case though)

Had to get the scraper out on the motor this morning, very inconvenient, very fresh out.

Got the electric blanket on my knees and trying to hold off turning the heating on for as long as possible. Also wondering if that's a false economy, as it'll take a fair amount of heating to get the house back from its current Baltic temperature.

15min micro bursts with the heating so far has done the job but a lot colder now. Longest time it's been on for a day is 2hr 45mins and that was only because I forgot to turn it down once.

The offspring are both at home presently and they shower before going to the gym and then when they come back and then later before going out. One of them works at home so moaning about the cold but not layering up enough. Thermals for Xmas

Me & missus have a small oil heater in the lounge and that does the trick when they are all out, I have underfloor (foil mat under laminate) in my office as I work from home and that just about does it as the room has 3 outside walls !

I've tried not using it at all this week (as I'd been slipping) however after two days of no use at all (whilst at work) it was 11.5degrees in my lounge/office this morning. The heating (set to 16) has been on for over 3 hours this morning and it is only 13 degrees. It will take until lunch time to get it to a 'warm' 16 at this rate. I'm wfh today with meetings so blanket etc. is not an option.. Tempted to get in the car and drive into work to be honest. Would be cheaper. I think the little a day, trying to keep the temp around 14 or so might be the way forward.

As for showers before the gym... I'd be banning that practice pronto. (I assume there are no showers at their gym as they'd be banned from one after as well.)

Wolf, that sounds incredibly inefficient, I can only assume you live in a barn with huge windows that have been left open.
