kids now on long PJs instead of shorts

heating wont come on for another couple months probs. unless its freezing. the HVAC picks up the inbetween stage

ran the numbers yesterday with gas usage based on my smart meter data and the price being 10.5p or whatever the exact . of a penny it is for 2 years will keep my gas bill at £100 a month over the 12 month direct debit

not terrible however we are very low use of gas compared (9000 kw) and considering it used to be 2.6p (only 2 winters ago) so like £250 a year including standing charge it is a massive increase.

how are people affording this.

Yeah quite mild in Manchester, been out all morning with my chainsaw feeling the tangled mess that was once a garden. Wish I’d ordered a bigger skip though. Going to need a second I think.

Or better still taking the front off, setting the temperature and then removing the cog inside so that the dial just spins.
Remove the room thermostat and get one of those portable ones that is controlled by your phone, and don't let anyone else have access to the app.
I've got an Ideal Halo which works very well on the app, there's also Nest and Hive which I believe work the same way

Not too bad to be honest, was expecting much worse.

Surely they can be nothing more than estimates,
or are those figures set in stone?
Just had my weekly update from Shell energy who are saying my yearly energy bill will be about £1500.
Didn't think that was too bad.

KW rates have been fixed and are set at 10.5 p KW gas and 34p electric

All that changes is how much of the stuff you use

British Gas send me a weekly email telling me details soon and seem to have removed the take a reading from the app so I can’t even do that.

Related question I’m on SVR can I move providers (even if I stay on SVR?)

You get a gadget with it that gives you a running total of what you use each day etc. It isn't bad, it is good for people to try and understand what causes significant usage (in my house it is normally my wife). It won't change your life though, apart from giving you an hour by hour window into how much poorer you are getting.

13 year old daughter morning she’s cold. She’ll have to wait until November for heating here. She could always go or her mums, heatings on in August!

19.5 according to my Nest in the front room, t-shirt weather. They start early with this ‘cold’ lark.

Is this the top price per unit the energy companies can charge from October 1st?

Not on for me yet (3 floor, 3 bed townhouse, semi) and I'm fighting to keep it off for another couple of months more, if at all, this year. Considering electric blankets for the beds at night, anybody got any idea if they're worth it? To be honest it's OK for me and the kids to throw jumpers/blankets on of an evening while we do whatever we're doing, but bedtime is when it seems like it might bite a little bit. Got an electric fire I might put on in the living room if that's where we're sat.

Been lucky, I guess, with my energy company (Octopus) - they're cutting their standing charge by 4% which sort of offsets the unit change a bit, and not immediately putting bills up, so the government discount will actually reduce my bill rather than just hold it at the same. If I can keep the energy use down that should help too.

Currently, Electric is 48.258p, going down to 47.902p. Gas is 27.216p, going down to 26.841p. That's based on the letter that they sent alongside all their gubbins about what they're doing - I spotted immediately that neither of those is 4% on the standing charge so have emailed them back about it. My maths says the following:

Current Electricity Standing Charge: 48.258p
New Electricity Standing Charge: 47.902p
% reduction based on above: 0.74% (100 - ((47.902/48.258)*100))
4% reduction: 46.338p (48.258 x 0.96)

But maybe there's something I'm missing. Any kind of reduction is pretty welcome at the moment, mind. Keep trying to get people I know to switch to Octopus when they're looking as both parties get £50 credit on their bills.

Thanks Yorks, just read an article which states that the standing order reduction will save on average £12 a year. No idea how accurate that is, am lousy at maths.

Apart from that, when you say you'll be paying less, is that because of the £400 government hand out?

Why is the government discount on electricity rather than gas? My gas prices will increase more than my electric.
