and yet, you still get to say, "at least we're not the Browns."Cuenca 'ammer wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 6:42 pm however, supporting the Oilers and then the Texans is really akin to supporting West Ham.
under Bum we did great things befitting our small team status. fell at the final hurdle a couple of times.
then the Texans. get great wide receivers, shytty qb's finally get a great defensive line who get too old by the time we get a franchise qb.
go to the brilliant Kansas City, go up I think it was 24-0 then lose 51-31 maybe ?
our franchise qb wants a say on who the next boss will be. they say okay then hire someone completely unqualified for the job. qb then wants out. then has 22 women say he sexually assaulted them.
qb has no trade clause so that combined with the lawsuits result in us getting less than market value from the Browns.

Re: NFL For Dummies
Hard to think of a team currently rebuilding that has staked more on the presumed success of an unproven QB. Douglass has done a solid job of adding talent throughout the roster, it really just comes down to whether Zach Wilson is the real deal or not. He was a late riser in the 2021 draft, based on what was a rather limited c.v. of college play. He looked really poor the first half of last season and then got injured. Came back when the Jets had nothing to play for and some very good games. Jets fans locally have done another 180 on him, meaning that in the past 12 months he's gone from savior to bust to savior. Should get a feel early how their season is going, as they play the entire AFC north in their first four games: Baltimore @ home, away to Cleveland, Bengals @ home and then a trip to Pittsburgh. They get through that 2-2 and they should be ok, although there's a nasty stretch of their schedule stating in Week 6:Cockneyboy311 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 1:08 pm Would be great to see the Jets not be so ***** for once. The fans deserve it. How many games have they won in the last 2 years? 5? Must be worse than supporting West Ham!

Re: NFL For Dummies
Really tricky schedule, possibly one of the hardest. I'm keeping expectations low but I would like to see the 2nd year players step up a bit and the free agents added should help, and all the rookies need to find their feet. Zach has come back looking in great shape though, I think Saleh called him "Beefy - in a good way", He got let down by WR not being able to catch or the OL leaking a bit too much. I hope Saleh does better than last season because I really want him there for a long time. He's awesome, but he's also only a 2nd year head coach with a 2nd year Offensive Coordinator in LeFluer. I'm looking forward to seeing them and the young team grow together.
How are your teams looking with the schedules? I had fun checking out some Schedule Reveal Videos.
The Jets one was funny.

Assorted NFL owners taking the temperature on forcing Daniel Snyder to sell up in Washington. Multiple credible allegations of sexual harassment and a toxic workplace not enough to get their attention, but now that they realize he's been cooking the books on revenue sharing he is in serious danger. They need 24 votes to oust him.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/339 ... ogy-report
Dwayne Haskins was legally drunk when he was struck by a dump truck on I-595 in Florida and killed on April 9, according to a toxicology report released by the office of the Broward County Medical Examiner on Monday.
According to the toxicology report, two separate samples taken from Haskins' body had alcohol levels of .20 and .24, both of which are above the legal limit in Florida of .08. According to the report, Haskins also tested positive for ketamine and norketamine, drugs that are used by medical professionals as anesthetics but that also have been known to be used recreationally.
The medical examiner ruled Haskins' cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of his death as an accident.
The medical examiner's investigation report stated that when Haskins' car was found on the side of the highway, a "female companion" was in the vehicle and told the Florida Highway Patrol that Haskins had left the vehicle to try to find gas. The woman's relationship to Haskins was not known, according to the report.
According to 911 audio released in April, Haskins' wife, who was not with him at the time of the accident, told a 911 dispatcher that the quarterback was walking to get gas on the morning he was struck and killed. Kalabrya Haskins told the 911 dispatcher that her husband called her early April 9 and told her he was getting out of his vehicle to get gas and that he would call her back when he returned to the car. When she didn't hear back, she called 911 and requested that dispatch check on him.
Haskins, 24, was in Florida that weekend to train with Pittsburgh Steelers teammates. According to the investigation report, a Steelers official told the medical examiner's office that the night before his death, Haskins went to dinner with a cousin or friend, whose name was "Joey," and then later went to a nightclub, "possibly in Miami."
"They drank heavily and at some point, they got into a fight, separating," the report states.
A final crash report released by the Florida Highway Patrol in April said Haskins was walking on the westbound side of I-595 when he entered into the travel lanes and into the path of the dump truck, which was traveling in the center lane. The front left of the dump truck struck Haskins.
The report concluded that Haskins was improperly in the roadway, and the driver of the dump truck wasn't found to have taken any actions that contributed to the accident, based on the judgment of the investigation officer. Haskins was also struck by a second car traveling beside the dump truck that took evasive maneuvers to avoid him, but partially hit him on its right side undercarriage, according to the report.

Well not quite no. He wanted a pay rise otherwise he was rumoured to be thinking about retiring (aged 31).
Now the highest paid defensive player of all time. Cant say he hasn't earned it tbh, even if the money they get is more ridiculous than footballers.

NFL: Denver Broncos sale to Walmart heir and family agreed after record bid
Walmart heir Rob Walton and his family have entered into a purchase and sale agreement for the takeover of the Denver Broncos.
The Walton-Penner family is reported to have made a bid worth $4.65bn (£3.71bn) for the NFL team.
That would be a record for an American sports franchise, topping the $3.2bn (£2.55bn) paid for the NBA's Brooklyn Nets in 2019.

Re: NFL For Dummies
Potential sale of the Raiders would eclipse this. Probably Washington too, if that ever comes to pass.
Situation with Vega$ is potential estate tax bill, a situation confronting several family-owned teams. Inheriting the franchise comes with a massive tax bill and in situations where the team is the primary asset of the ownership group, seemingly the only way out is a sale. The League has been tweaking its rules to limit this risk to long-time owners but it's "still a thing"
A change in the NFL’s bylaws could keep legacy ownership families in the game.
NFL owners voted to lower the required amount that a controlling owner must hold from 5% to 1%, a move intended to allow families with longstanding histories in the league to retain their teams.
The rule only applies to teams that have had the same owner group for 10 years or more.
Those same teams must also have 30% of the franchise controlled by the owning family’s members.
Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II indicated that there was little momentum to change that rule.
The move aims to soften the potential estate tax hit from people inheriting ownership stakes from family members. With the average team value soaring to $3.5 billion, per Forbes, taxes on inherited wealth can become unaffordable for team owner descendants.
Washington a different circumstance altogether.

he'll claim it's a lot cheaper, (and it probably is) and then they'll have NDA's so he can claim that he's completely innocent and no one can dispute it.Cockneyboy311 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 1:15 pm What happened to clearing his name?

HOWEVER
there's still 4 more claims one of which absolutely said she won't settle in any way shape or form, and another who has just filed. he's been "cleared" by 2 grand juries, but this last one "might" go to another grand jury.
even so, his money is guaranteed and the fallout (outside of Cleveland of course) by women has been very loud. I do believe some even inside Cleveland are making a racket, not the season ticket holders of course.
there's also a chance that he will get suspended ONE season and some are calling for a TWO season suspension similar to one a baseball player got for "less misdemeaners." (for want of a better word).

Re: NFL For Dummies
There's a real good chance that Cleveland's extra-clever efforts to draft a contract that protects themselves financially from a potential (likely) Deshaun Watson suspension, might not be extra-clever enough. For example, what if the suspension doesn't transpire until the second year of the contract? Suspend him now and the NFLPA challenges in the courts and if that isn't resolved until the season is under....then what? And what becomes of Baker Mayfield in the interim? Doesn't seem like it has been fully thought through, with the bonus that any precedents the League is going to rely on will likely also be brought to bear on the (currently) worse owner in the league....when you are having hearings on your league in front of Congress, things are not going well.
A slow Saturday on the NFL calendar has picked up considerably.
With the NFL knowing that coverage of all things Deshaun Watson is unavoidable, the league steered the emergence of reports into a window where they could be less noticed.
And here we are. At 6:05 p.m. ET, the Wall Street Journal posted an item from Andrew Beaton that contains this extremely noteworthy nugget. The league “is pushing for an indefinite suspension that would last no shorter than one year for Watson.”
Watson and the NFL Players Association, which has a duty under federal law to defend Watson and all members of the union, will fight it. As PFT has reported, one of the tacks they will take is to argue that the proposed punishment does not mesh with discipline or lack thereof for multiple owners who allegedly have run afoul of the Personal Conduct Policy. Beaton’s article confirms this specific report.
By pushing for an indefinite suspension, the league would be protected against the possibility that more women will sue Watson between now and the middle of March 2023, when all relevant two-year statutes of limitations will expire — assuming that Watson ceased the practice of securing private massages through social-media after the first lawsuit was filed in March 2021.
The league’s case, per Beaton, will focus on five of the women who have sued Watson. Those cases have corroboration from text messages and other evidence. “League officials believe those allegations in particular are objectively provable and establish a clear and disturbing pattern of behavior from Watson,” Beaton writes.
Multiple reports have pegged the commencement of the hearing before Judge Sue L. Robinson for Tuesday, June 28. It’s unclear how long the process will take. An effort by the NFLPA to defend Watson based on the actions, and consequences, of owners like Daniel Snyder, Robert Kraft, and Jerry Jones will necessarily delay the process. Nevertheless, Watson has an absolute right to argue that his punishment should be commensurate with other cases.
Along the way, the NFLPA could uncover some evidence that would be of particular interest to the U.S. House Committee on Oversight & Reform, which is trying to get full access to the investigation conducted by attorney Beth Wilkinson regarding the Commanders and owner Daniel Snyder. It’s impossible to know whether Snyder’s punishment properly fit the misconduct without knowing the full scope of the misconduct.

Re: NFL For Dummies
funny though, not the amusing kind, is that there is also a fit and proper test for owenrs in the EPL. and that they don't usually apply the same standards there either. a player gets suspended for bringing the game into disrepute (can't remember when the last time that was used tbh) and gets a fine to go with it.
the owners ?
nah, not so much.
Mork and Mindy one time, she was trying to explain how "democracy worked"..Mork in all his innocence said at the end "oh what you're saying really is he who has the money controls the votes" or words to that effect...
