Nowhere near as bad as done are making out. And been picked by successive West Han managers for the last 8 years. Best left back since Dicks and not easy to replace.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
Was I fuming at the european sendings off? too bloody right, the first one for the ref the second one was a brain fart. BIG brain fart , but when i consider i was more upset when he got injured a few seasons back.
He has been a great servant to the club, puts in a shift 98% of the time and like others have posted our best and most consistent left back since St Julian of Dicks.
Do I think we could do with an upgrade, yes but that could be argued for most of the first XI

Still in dire need of an upgrade. Don't let the lack of a fatal mistake in these first two games fool you.
Nonetheless, I am glad it's not Emerson. For now it seems, Cresswell lives on.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
An upgrade will be welcome but a dire need is not the position we're in. Cresswell is fine as a specialist left footed Left Back and Johnson although not left footed predominantly is still a decent Full Back. If we had injuries, only had 1 then I could understand the urgency but as it stands, I don't see it as a dire situation.
Here's hoping we bring in Sosa or the like though.. let's see.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
Ben is a right back and the sooner we can get to a place where he can focus almost solely on playing and developing as one, the better for us and him. Cresswell is 32, generally targeted by the oppo, dwindling in attacking output and often a source of the problem in many of the goals we concede. He wasn't fine when he was bombing us out of the Europa. And it hasn't been just those two games. That's the reality. Time waits for no man.Colours never run wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 9:45 pm An upgrade will be welcome but a dire need is not the position we're in. We had to do it with Noble. We have to do it with Cresswell.
Sosa would be great. Doesn't seem to be anything happening though, which is a shame.

That time when Rory Delap broke Joe Cole's leg.
That time when James McCarthy went through Payet.
That time when that absolute no mark waster from Karlsruher did Cresswell.
I'll remember those things, and when my lottery ticket comes in I'll be looking for reparation.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
That was a mad time. If I remember rightly, around that time was when there was buzz about Cresswell possibly playing some central midfield.Monkeybubbles wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 9:54 pm That time when Rory Delap broke Joe Cole's leg.

There’s a strange dichotomy when over the years you see fans desperate to prolong the careers of charismatic mediocrity like Collins and Cole and desperate to end the careers of legitimate delivering talent like Cresswell and Fabianski at the same sort of age

Re: The Cresswell Thread
The lack of respect being shown to one of our best performers over his time with us is disappointing. I don't think he's been as good since his serious injury, but he's very much been worth his place in the team nonetheless.
Hopefully we will see him with the skippers armband on this evening.

Would save a bit of money in the future for travel if we're kicked out for playing someone ineligable...

Cresswell is now firmly in the Noble stage for me. It's not a matter of respect, but reality. We replaced Noble (too late) and we saw the instant improvement almost manifest itself as an epiphany to what things could be like with a different set of attributes alongside Rice.
It's just the game now. It waits for nobody. If we were able to do it with Noble, who meant a lot more to me in all honesty, we can also do it with Cress.
He would be a solid backup Left Back at this point.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
Absolutely. There are at least 10-15 games with his name on the starting lineup this season as a backup.

There is a fine line here imo.the pink palermo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:50 am The lack of respect being shown to one of our best performers over his time with us is disappointing. Saying someone should not be playing because they are not good enough is fine. That isn't disrespectful.
He shouldn't be our first choice LB imo. But he can still contribute and play.
But slating a long term loyal servant further is disrespectful. Tbh I haven't seem much of this, but there are a lot of Cresswell posts on a lot of threads. I've not read them all.

In honour of Pink Palermo, I hope wherever Cresswell is watching the game today, he's sitting there with a Captains armband on watching on whilst sipping a nice crisp cold one.

Re: The Cresswell Thread
It does seem a bit weird to me that he is banned. New, different competition etc.
If you get a red in the final week of the Prem season, are you banned for Week 1 of the next season? And even so, that's the same competition. UEL and UECL, although under the same umbrella, are different competitions in different seasons.
Understand Rice's ban, as it was off pitch stuff. Cresswell's I'm a bit iffy about though.
