Then warmongers like Bush or Obama pretty sure are fine to be executed without trial as well, I guess.

Re: The Biden Thread
I have no problem with the USA killing a bad man.
Doing it via a drone strike, however, is wrong.

You have no problem accepting a state can kill those it regards as bad provided they do it nicely?

You're saying the KSK has never killed a terrorist etc?Daniel1895 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:21 am That's the problem - nobody cares if the US decide to transfer their capital punishment to foreign countries.
But they're the only ones allowed to do so, somehow...

Re: The Biden Thread
Not sure why this is even being debated. Biden gave the nod to take out one of the most evil men alive, partly responsible for the most horrific act in my lifetime that resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people.
Biden went up in my estimation just like Obama did when they got Bin Laden. The world is a tinier bit safer today.

I meant Daniel1895's post read to me that the Americans are the only ones allowed to bomb targets/terrorists etc, but other countries obviously do too. Re: The Biden Thread
There's an interesting conversation about how the Americans went about this but the big issue here is where he was.
The house he was in is owned by one of the top lads in the Taliban. One of the ways people tried to "re-brand" the Taliban 12 months ago was to suggest they no longer had close links with organisations like AQ and in fact were openly hostile to them. If the two groups are back in bed together then how far away are we from the situation in the late 90s/early 00s where Afghanistan was basically just a giant training camp for terrorist cells?

Good point. They're desperate for money. If that's the way to make it, that's what they're going to do.Danny's Dyer Acting wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 11:47 am There's an interesting conversation about how the Americans went about this but the big issue here is where he was.

Difference is now the US has better drone/long range giant razor blades and the US population would rather they get used than another 911 or expensive war with American troops on the ground.

Re: The Biden Thread
Obviously they're not the only ones, my concern is that even though these drone strikes are becoming much more accurate, how much collateral damage results and how those optics can be used to perpetuate the recruitment of more and more terrorists.
I think my main concern is that the world has become too small, with nutters now being our next door neighbours, rather than some stone-age nutter half the world away worshipping God knows what and happy to die for some mythical cause.

Re: The Biden Thread
$10-20k of student loan debt being wiped out for anyone household with an income of under $125k.
Repayments threshold lifted and capped at 5% of your monthly earnings.
I think there's also something in there about a 20 year limit being put in place on repayments.
20m people benefitting, could be as many as 14m having all of their remaining debt wiped out.
Yes it's clearly a policy designed to win votes. Much better than the one from his predecessor that gave businesses a permanent tax cut and the middle classes a temporary one though.

Re: The Biden Thread
Does anyone in the US pay off their student debt? Our system is just waiting to collapse it seems to me. It's going to be billions that never gets repaid.
If you have paid your debt off in the US do you get '$10k back?
