Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

Thinking about going to Ireland over the summer and having a drive around, the west and north west coast. However, car hire is a whopping €2k for 10 days!!
I did a week in Northern Ireland & Rep Ireland
Did one night in each place
Portrush
Donegal
Westport
Galway
Tralee
Killarney
Cork
It’s fabulous scenery and quirky pubs & places along the way absolutely love Ireland
The issue is to see some of the best scenery which can be remote you need a car and public transport just doesn’t cover it
Unless you book tours but they could be as costly or more expensive than car hire
My trip was in 2009 so can’t gage the cost of car hire now sorry but you’ll not regret visiting Ireland
Cheers for the responses on Ireland. S-H … , I might be tempted by a Ferrari at that price, however, it was £2k for a Polo!!
We will probably end up driving and go via Liverpool, after visiting some mates near Chester. The lovely missus Jaye is Manx, so we’re well versed in the joys of the Irish Sea.
It will be a return to Ireland to complete a full circuit of some stunning places and scenery … and Guinness!!. For our Honeymoon, we did Dublin, Waterford, Kinsale, Dingle, Ring of Kerry, The Burren and Galway. Whilst in 2020 we did the Antrim Coast from Belfast to Portrush.
We are going to start in Donegal and do the north-west coast and end up in Muff!!!
Nipping down to Mexico on Monday after work. Driving 4 hours south & staying in this tiny house on a farm for two nights. No wifi, limited electricity, surrounded by horses, pigs, dags, doves, goats etc etc & 5 minutes walk to the beach.
I came back from a week in Kefalonia earlier this week.
It was lovely; nice and relaxing.
Didn't experience any of the problems at Gatwick that seem to be on the news all the time - smooth experience at both ends of the journey and at both airports, beer at about £3 for their version of a pint, duty free being sold on the plane at £3 odd for 20 fags (I've never smoked though) - unleaded was over €2.50, mind.
Mate of mine is having his 50th in a few weeks and he's hired a field at a campsite for a kind of mini festival. So I had to buy a tent.
I hate camping. I ****ing hate camping.
The ever fragrant Mrs Monkeybubbles thought we should go on a trial run, just so we didn't appear to be complete novices, which I thought was just a ruse because she likes all that outdoorsy stuff.
Anyway, just back from a couple of nights at a site near Bodiam. Beautiful weather, great scenery, proper clean and comfy showers and loos, superb on site bar and cafe, kayaking and swimming in the river, few hundred yards to a decent pub, NO OTHER CAMPERS, just bunnies and birds and cows in the field next door, plenty of silent time in thought.

Was that Bodiam Boating? I have been a couple of times and it is pretty civilised as camping goes. And I hate camping too.
What do you make of Tripadvisor reviews? The ones about the Spanish hotel we are booked at in August has very recent reviews ranging from absolutely terrible to excellent. The terrible ones seem to be increasing though so getting concerned now about our holiday (all paid for).
