The shortage is hitting the entire electronics industry, not just Sony (and other console manufacturers).

Try getting a 3080/90 card for your PC in the last 18 months, though you can partly blame the crypto-mining crowd for that!

The best way around this is to log into one of those PS5 stock alert sites. Granted you have to be quicker than a quick man from Kwik fit but that's how I got mine. Straight from Sony too :coolas:

No wonder cloud gaming is getting serious investment. As a test, I played through one of the Gears of War titles over Christmas, purely using Xbox cloud on my PC & series S to see what kind of experience it would be. Played through absolutely brilliantly - okay, might not be responsive enough (yet) for everything, but for single player stuff it was spot on.

I bought a cheap PS4 today which is my first console since the PS1. I picked up FIFA 2022 with it too.

Any tips or recommendations for games? I know very little about them these days.

It depends what you're after really. My personal choices would be Wipeout Omega Collection and Tony Hawk 1 + 2

Where to buy games? I’ve no issue with second hand as long as they work. There’s a Game and a CEX on my high street plus an independent one.

They should all give you a guarantee if they do not work. So no worries with those 3 you mentioned

Perfect. I've fancied a Sonic the Hedgehog game as I always played him on my Sega Master System II. I had one with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. My now late father (a Spurs fan...) offered me £10.00 per GCSE I passed A-C so I could buy it.

Maybe try one of the premium versions of Playstation Network for a year - lots of games on there and if you don't like it delete and try another

A mate of mine hacked his by overriding the cover (iirc used some bluetak and a spring of some description to do the microswitch), load up a genuine game, once the console had booted up swap out the disk with a copy of whatever it was you wanted to play.

IIRC, the bluetak was to fool the light sensor which told the console that the lid was down, the spring pushed down on the microswitch, but did not damage it when the lid was actually down.

Worked mostly, but be careful that you don't blind yourself on the lazer.

Might have been a couple of other things, but that's all I can remember.

For me it was resident evil. Almost lost my job as I couldn't put the game down.
