Re: Romford
Lovely thread for such a sad time.
My condolences to family and friends, which he had many.
If you went to games, particularly away Romford was not difficult to pick out, a truly larger than life character that will be hugely missed by the West Ham family.
RIP big man

He also had a fair hate of Liverpool fans too from memory.Denzil wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 3:47 am Am away atm and not been on here much. Thought the worst when I saw this thread at the top.
Terribly sad news, I never knew Romford but could tell what a major impact he had on many on here and felt like I knew him through that. Especially his deep hate of Arsenal!
Rest easy big man.
Another endearing quality of the big man..

Re: Romford
They have George.
I am so sad to hear of Chas's passing. He was as much the heart and soul of supporting West Ham as anyone I know, a real giant of a man in every way with a huge heart and genuine kindness that benefited so many.
I was able to help him once for one of his many many charity drives, I sent him something and found, just as MH mentions, that although he was generous to a fault he found it very hard to fathom when he was the recipient of even a small kindness like mine, he had a very humble streak to.
God is calling to many of the "old school" home early it doesn't seem fair that the heavenly Hornchurch coach is filling up this fast.
Rest in peace Chas hamm:

Re: Romford
I had the pleasure of spending a train journey from Euston to Lime Street for an away game at Liverpool sitting with him. He was a proper old school fan and a gentleman.
One of the things I often reminisce about now I’m not able to follow West Ham so much living in France is Romford’s boat trips. They were so much fun and I’ve got great memories of them. He really made those trips feel like we were all one big West Ham family.

Re: Romford
I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he was an unmistakable presence when you walked into an away end, and even more so on this forum if he disagreed with you
Clearly a man who left a huge mark on the West Ham family.
What more fitting tribute could there be yesterday than a West Ham win and a highly contentious VAR decision in Arsenal's favour.

Re: Romford
Gutted to read about Romford - one of West Hams finest.
Only had the pleasure of meeting Chas once and only very briefly before Cardiff away in the play off semi final first leg, we managed to get a couple of spares through KUMB/Romford on the day at short notice which meant we were 5/10 mins late arriving at the ground. Romford waited outside for us missing the first 10 minutes himself, sums up what a gent he was that he would do that for a couple of Hammers he had never met.
RIP Romford.

Re: Romford
So sad to hear of this on Saturday night. We were in the Black Bull at the time, his Stratford local, and were able to raise a glass in his honour. Some very special and moving words from UTJ and Gnome. I'm humbled to have known Chas as a friend.
The club is preparing a tribute to Chas in a match programme.

Re: Romford
We raised our glasses to him in The Black Bull yesterday and it started us talking about him and the different times we saw him.
My favourite was the one where we were in a pub early doors before Fulham away on New Year's Day, Chas walked in and ordered a jug of Bloody Mary and stood there for ages pouring in the Worcestershire Sauce, drank the jug and just said 'Heavy night last night'
Rest easy big man

Re: Romford
Bill Gardner is raising money for Chas's family to help with funeral costs etc and has asked me to pass on that he will be collecting in the supporters club Thursday and at Spurs Sunday.
He has already raised £185 since Sunday, so a big to those that have already contributed.

Re: Romford
do they have a Go Fund Me type of page or something that those of us outside the UK can contribute mate ?Sawbo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 2:38 pm Bill Gardner is raising money for Chas's family to help with funeral costs etc and has asked me to pass on that he will be collecting in the supporters club Thursday and at Spurs Sunday.

would be sure that they'd find a decent amount contributed if we could use something like Pay Pal or similar to get funds over
cheers
