Re: The Latest Mass Shooting In America
Did he?
trump said he did but according the bloke he didn't know which building or floor the shooter was in & he stayed by an exit to help other kids & help the police when they got there.

Re: The Latest Mass Shooting In America
Police management of this crises is coming under intense scrutiny. It took them between an hour and an hour and a half to go after the shooter, even while knowing he was on his way to the school before he got there. There are unverified reports that some officers went into the school to retrieve their own children and then waited.

One of the parents of this latest shooting said that he doesn't blame the gun, he blames the person.Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 3:05 pm This might sound a horrible thing to say but I assure you it's not meant to be, but I can't help asking myself how many bereaved parents voted for Ted Cruz and will vote for him next time round?
People here really really LOVE their guns.

And then it failing because some dude doesn’t fancy taking a bullet for his meagre salary.'stone hammer wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 5:28 pm Continuing that idea, the average security guard salary in the USA is $27000.
Imagine spending $3.5billion just to stop your citizens shooting up schools.

Re: The Latest Mass Shooting In America
If that is true then it is a joke. You have a highly armed unit and they don't do exactly the job they are needed for. I seem to recall another school shooting where the armed security office stayed outside while the killing was going on.WCpete wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 6:43 pm Police management of this crises is coming under intense scrutiny. Clearly arming everyone isn't the answer when they **** themselves...

The grandmother who somehow survived being shot in the face, called the police as soon as the shooter left her house and told them where he was going and what vehicle he was driving.

We'd be better off if God would come out and disown America.

Louisiana Senator tells us why people need AR15s. To shoot feral pigs.
The children are a worthy sacrifice because these pigs need shooting.

Re: The Latest Mass Shooting In America
Ideally (i.e. 'never') there would be a referendum on gun control which a government would be obliged to obey.
Problem is there is no way that could be de-politicised (exactly like Brexit) so that the issue was isolated. It would inevitably come down to one or another major party having it identified in their general agenda which would prevent the issue being considered alone. People who may want gun-control don't necessarily want a referendum mandated from a Democratic political perspective and vice-versa. If, if, if radical gun-control legislation were to be passed, maybe comparing it to a European situation, I get the impression that it would involve trying to 'de-commission' a very large proportion of households in the US. Think this would cause strong resistance and entrenchment, leading to serious civil unrest (not necessarily armed - not going that far).
If only life were as simple as principles.
Also think it is a societal issue (which you can't disengage from politics). Rather than condemning Americans as 'nutters' I'd say that they have simply got used to the prevalence of guns and these things can take generations to change.
