West Ham Utd 3-2 Leicester City (11/04/21)

Post by ammo »

Can I start it please as it's my cup final?

Win please however you can, need to pick up the walking wounded and battle on.

I think this may be a game too far for us, especially with all the injuries mounting up. However, West Ham never cease to surprise us all. Certainly, I think Leicester will not be as wasteful if they get chances. Personally, I think I'd put Balbuena back in instead of Diop as I think he would be a better man marker and better in the air v Vardy and Ihenacho. Would that unsettle things though? Obviously if Oggy was available he would be back in straight away but I don't think he is going to be ready.

They have the cup semi final the following week, could that be in the back of their minds?

This is the first time in months where I don't immediately feel confident we can win.

There's a chance that Ogbonna, Rice, Lingard and Antonio could be missing. Plus the whole team looked like they were running on fumes by the last 20 minutes last night.

Still....win and we're a point of 3rd with 7 games to go!!!!!

I'm not surprised, they covered 119km as a team compared to Wolves 112km.

Plenty of rest today and tomorrow I would think!

would have to assume that antonio is out of this one even if only a slight concern . hopefully he can return for newcastle.

leicester are a young fast paced team and just who we dont need now !

moyes will set up to compete and grab a 1-0 . no way to we go at these as they will catch us on the counter. maddison back for them is a big worry as well.

so the patched up 11 could be

fabianski
coufal dawson diop cresswell
Fredericks soucek noble masuaka
bowen lingard

subs trott balbuena johnson longello alves benrahma lanzini oludepo coventry

so no antonio oggy rice for this one.

bench looking very weak but thats all we have thanks to sully !

1-0 west ham lingard to strike again.

MOTM Dawson and fabianski !

Was going to post along the same lines dc

That is a helluva record. Would much rather be playing them at their gaff where they have been considerably less successful, after all we put 3 past them early season.
Will be a tough game but I agree with Puff, Leicester are overdue a second away day defeat.

I'm going for the magic formula that worked against Wolves. I always get it wrong. So 1-0 to Leicester

What they do is, sit back, break at lightning speed and hope to catch you on the break. Counter that and we get 3 points. But, it ain't gonna be easy. Need Oggy back for this

Is Ogbonna back for this one?
If he is how about moving Diop up to DM?
I'm no sure he has ever played there but he can carry the ball and would also be able to sit, enabling Soucek (if fit) to get forward.

My head says 1-1. My heart says 2-0 (Lingard plus Leicester own goal after a comical mix-up between the keeper and one of his defenders)

Vardy hits the post and collects a yellow card for complaining about something to the referee.

I'd have Coufal in as DM before Diop, with Johnson at right back. Can see Diop switching off and people running off him.

Plus whilst Diop makes mistakes at CB he has pace which we need against Leicester forwards

Oggy wasn't even on the bench so doubt we will see him able to start till Chelsea

Christ, not another match thread suggesting Diop and Coufal in at CDM. Coufal has been one of the best right-backs in the league, let's leave him where he is. Diop can't go anywhere until Ogbonna is back.

Enough

So you wouldn't even put Fornals in the squad? Shocking, especially after his MOTM performance against them last time!!!

I think this one might be a step too far for us if Antonio is missing. Leicester are a very, very good side. If he's out then I reckon we should go with a false 9, and have the front 3 all switching positions throughout the game.

Diop really scares me, think I'd prefer to have Balbuena there if we're going with a 5 at the back.

Hoping we have a clean bill of health, but worries exist over:

Rice - obviously out for a few weeks
Antonio - possibly hamstring problems
Lingard - pulled up at end of the game yesterday, although hopefully just cramp
Oggy - unlikely to have returned from injury
Soucek - was down receiving treatment for 5mins yesterday

That's arguably our 5 most important/best players right there.

Hopefully, all will still be available with obvious exception of Rice who's definitely out.

Such a tough game to call

I'd take a draw right now. Respect the point

Hard to know who we will have available

Is Antonio is fit happy days

If not we reshuffle Bowen up top with benrahma and lingard supporting

Ogbonna we could do with back but might be too soon

Just have to wait and see

Tbh I said before Diop, not he should start there against Leicester.
But it's a fair point considering either as Leicester's midfield is high energy and moves the ball quickly. It's not a game for Noble.

Noble back for Newcastle but not in this game

100% feels like a game too far this one.

Can't see us getting anything, and there's a chance we might even get a bit of a drubbing given our recent defending.

Wouldn't say no to some ugly draws against Leicester, Chelsea and Everton tbh given the rest of our remaining fixture list should be easier.

I may start pea-shooting soggy bog roll through a biro at any people that suggest Diop as a DM. He gets dragged out of position easily enough in the position he actually plays, sticking him in the middle would be horrific.

Besides, Nobes deserves to keep the shirt after his performance last night. (We'll ignore the suicide slide tackle that he made during the attack for their first goal that took him out of play rather than Traore...)
