I'm exactly the same. This time last year I was churning out long runs for fun.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 5:46 pm I used to do 150+ miles a month, can barely manage a mile without feeling shagged these days. Think I’m going to stick to cycling for a month or so before I revisit running.
Covid initially wiped me out and sleeping/living on a camp bed in the spare room for 10 days ruined my hip/knee. Throw being a new/first time dad into the mix and the past year has been difficult on the run front.
Finally rehab'ing the knee and spending time in thr gym means I've got round to starting with easy 1 mile runs to start building up.
I've missed running so much.

7:24 on a Sunday and I'm going for my first run in about 6 months. Let's see how this goes.

Re: Running
Did my first park run since the beginning of December yesterday. Thought I'd be doing enough over Xmas by using the machines in the gym. I was wrong. Going by my HRM stats it looks like I've lost 6 months progress.

Re: Running
Managed a 6 km run in -2 degree weather on Saturday. Followed that up with a 3km run(with my 10 year old daughter) in -7 degree weather this morning.
I hate Canada.
Next run will be a 7km attempt on Wednesday at a balmy 5 degrees.
Feel myself getting stronger every run. Between my jogs, and my weight training, I am close to having abs for the first time in my life at 45.

This is from my 12.5k run today....
I'm finding those figures a little dubious. I really need to get myself one of those chest strap heart monitors.

Re: Running
Does anyone else have Garmin?
And if so, do you often run the same route?
Garmin has this great option where you compare up to four runs over the same route. Each run is designated by a different colour so you can have gambling nights with each member of your family picking a colour then betting on it
Today I bet on Red & came 3rd.

Aye but purely for logging mileage. I didn’t get a GPS watch until after my running “career” was basically over.Shabu wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:10 pm Does anyone else have Garmin?

If you train to heart rate, definitely get a chest strap as watches aren’t very accurate.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 6:38 pm This is from my 12.5k run today....

I personally prefer working to pace zones.

I don't actually do either really... I either put more effort in, or I take my foot of the gas. That's about as scientific as I get.Centre Half wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 9:44 am If you train to heart rate, definitely get a chest strap as watches aren’t very accurate.

Re: Running
Somehow managed to get to 10 runs this month (will make it 11 tomorrow) with nearly 2 weeks of inactivity due to work, illness and being on holiday.
Pleased, as my goal is always to try and hit double figures for the month, but also mildly annoyed that I could've stacked up bigger mileage. On 64km currently, so will hit 70km, but could've hit 100km which I've never done before. Ah well.....

Re: Running
Just had a little look at my stats on Strava earlier. Since joining in May 2021, I've ran a total of 1,988.6km. Sunday's run will hopefully take me over the 2000 mark. Considering I only started running at the time of joining Strava, age 44, I have to say that I've exceeded any expectations I had - by a long long way.

Re: Running
I’ve had a bit of man flu this week so skipped my Tuesday run after running a half on Sunday.
Thought I’d do my 10k yesterday but felt like I’ve ran 100k, I’m in bits.
Lesson learnt!

Re: Running
I thought I was doing well with my 3 runs a week. Just had a look at the Strava table for this group, and one person in particular... 13 runs in one week? Just... how?!
I'm not sure I'd ever recover if I tried that.

Re: Running
Before I started running, my exercise consisted of weight training at the gym and hiking. Since lockdown started, those two things have pretty much been replaced with running. During that time, I've also refined my diet, started intermittent fasting, and cut out a lot of junk. My weighing scales are now reporting that I'm 11 stone and 1 pound. That's probably the lightest I've been since I was 18 and started drinking beer. I'll be honest - I'm not entirely happy with that. I feel really fit, which is great - but it's come at the expense of muscle. It's all gone! I think I need to considerably up the calories and add some weight training back to my routine.

If it's not too off-topic, and you don't mind me asking: how have you avoided feeling hungry all the time?

Re: Running
On my first day of our holiday I ran on the beach. It's just over 1km long so a quick out and back is perfect.
Running barefoot flared up my plantar fajitas so haven't been able to run since, just walk it.
I think I'm going to buy some oofos sandals. I have the flip flops and they're amazing for plantar.
