Re: Tennis 2021
Bloody right. Two teenage girls, both outsiders, one a qualifier who wins the tournament without losing a set, on the 20th anniversary of the world worst terrorist attack, in the city where it happened, of which neither were born when it happened.
Did I miss anything....?

Funny, the commentators on ESPN were saying how much better the atmosphere in New York is compared to Wimbledon

Re: Tennis 2021
Just finished watching on +1 as we were out when it started.
Amazing tennis from both and no doubt they will meet again in more finals. If David Coleman was still alive he would have summed up Emma Raducanu’s achievement over the last three weeks perfectly, quite extraordinary
What a future she has and yes, nailed on for SPOTY

Come for a visit, mate. I live next to National City, Filipino central. Tons of birds like her here.

I must be getting to be a big softy in my old age, because my eyes started leaking when she took the trophy.
What a phenomenal story. The one and only qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam.
I hope we see that big smile win many, many more championships. Hopefully Fernandez wins some too - two bright stars in the making there.

Yes, I think we are about to see the new Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert-Lloyd years of dominance in women's tennis re-born

Re: Tennis 2021
I am not a tennis fan, having given up watching it about 30 years ago because I got bored with it - it just appeared that it was reliant on sheer brute force.
I watched the game last night, not much else but n and good to get behind an underdog, a British one too.
Thoroughly enjoyed the game and think I might watch a bit more now.

Re: Tennis 2021
Be interesting to see what happens next. Am not so sure about the dominance, women's tennis is wide open at the moment and the main prizes could well be shared around by quite a few.Puff Daddy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 9:14 am Yes, I think we are about to see the new Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert-Lloyd years of dominance in women's tennis re-born
I would say that if anyone has the tools it's her, although her opponent yesterday looks pretty feisty as well.
Let's see.

Re: Tennis 2021
At least there was none of that hideous grunting last night that so many players bought into the game. So many games I've turned off or put on mute over the last decade.pablo jaye wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 10:14 am I am not a tennis fan, having given up watching it about 30 years ago because I got bored with it - it just appeared that it was reliant on sheer brute force.

You're hitting a tennis ball not lifting 100kg...

Mate,
Not sure what kind of women you hang about with but I'm just talking about normal people.
The Filipino ladies like to eat in big groups and sing karaoke
